The Great “Cleanup”: 2.89 Crore Deletions

The preliminary enumeration phase has led to a historic “cleansing” of the state’s voter database. Out of the 15.44 crore pre-SIR voters, about 18.7% have been flagged for removal.

Why are names being deleted?

• Permanently Shifted: ~1.30 crore (Highest in urban hubs like Lucknow and Ghaziabad).

• Absent/Untraceable: ~79.52 lakh.

• Deceased: ~46.24 lakh.

• Duplicates: ~25.47 lakh (Voters registered in two different locations).

Urban vs. Rural: Where are the Deletions?

Interestingly, urban districts are seeing the highest percentage of removals compared to rural areas.

• Lucknow: 30% of the list (12 lakh names) marked for deletion.

• Ghaziabad: 28.8% (8.18 lakh names).

• Kanpur Nagar: 25.5% (9 lakh names).

What if your name is deleted?

If you find your name missing from the draft list published on January 6, don’t panic.

1. The Objection Window: You have exactly one month (until Feb 6) to contest the deletion.

2. Form 6: Use this form to re-apply for inclusion if you are a valid resident.

3. The “Unmapped” Category: Over 1 crore voters are currently in the “unmapped” category. They must provide a birth certificate, passport, or school certificate to retain their names in the final list…
