If you are going to travel by train and you have a waiting ticket, then this news may be important for you. A new rule has been implemented by the Indian Railways for those traveling in the train with a waiting ticket.

According to this new rule, a fine will have to be paid for traveling on a waiting ticket. Let us know what will be the effect of this rule and what things the passengers have to take care of. Railways have a system of tickets for reservation, in which some seats are reserved in advance and waiting list is put on the remaining seats. If your ticket is in waiting, it means that the seat has not been confirmed for you yet and it is uncertain whether you can get a seat during the journey or not. But many times people travel in the reserved coach of the train by taking a waiting ticket, which will now be considered a serious violation.

Punishment for travelling with waiting ticket

Now if you board a reserved coach of a train with a waiting ticket, you will have to pay a fine. Waiting ticket does not mean that you have the right to sit in a reserved coach. Indian Railways has decided to strictly enforce this rule and if you travel with a waiting ticket, you will be fined.

Penalty for travelling with waiting ticket in sleeper coach

If you board a sleeper coach with a waiting ticket, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 250. Apart from this, you will also have to pay the full fare from the place where you started your journey to the place where you were caught by the TTE checking the ticket. If you want to continue your journey, you will also have to pay additional fare according to the further distance.

Penalty for travelling with waiting ticket in AC coach

If you try to travel in an AC coach with a waiting ticket, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 440. Along with this, you will also have to pay the fare of the journey you have decided. The amount of fare may change according to the distance of the journey, that is, the longer the journey, the higher the fare will be.

Refund and cancellation of waiting tickets

If your ticket goes into waiting list while booking tickets online, it gets cancelled automatically and you get a refund. However, this is not the case with waiting tickets booked from the counter. Waiting tickets booked from the counter are not cancelled and passengers may have to face a penalty for this.

Why is this rule necessary?

The main purpose behind this rule is to prevent chaos in the reserved coaches of the railways. When a passenger travels in a reserved coach with a waiting ticket, it causes inconvenience to other passengers with confirmed reservations and also creates problems in proper arrangement of seats in the train. Apart from this, the railways also suffer losses as there are no seats for unreserved passengers.

Railway officials say that this rule has been implemented keeping in mind the safety and convenience of passengers. Railways also get additional income from the fines levied on traveling with waiting tickets, which they can spend on improving passenger facilities and the railway network.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav replied in a written reply to a question raised by Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh.

Sanjay Singh had asked the minister to provide details of the total number of passengers in the country in the last three years who had to travel on waitlisted tickets due to non-availability of ‘confirmed’ tickets.

Indian Railway Waiting Ticket: There will be times when your waiting ticket does not get confirmed. In such a situation, that ticket is canceled by the Railways. In the name of ticket cancellation, a huge charge is deducted from the passengers in the name of convenience fee. There has been a big change regarding this rule of waiting and RAC tickets.

Indian Railway Waiting Ticket: Many times it will happen when your waiting ticket does not get confirmed. In such a situation, that ticket is canceled by the Railways. In the name of ticket cancellation, a huge charge is deducted from the passengers in the name of convenience fee. There has been a big change regarding this rule of waiting and RAC tickets. According to the new rule, now passengers will not have to pay heavy fees for wait waiting or cancellation of RAC tickets.

Railways changed the rules

Making a major change in its rules, Railways has decided to remove additional charges for waiting and cancellation of RAC tickets. That is, if you get the waiting ticket canceled or it gets cancelled, then you will not be charged additional charges in the name of convenience fee. According to the new rules of Railways, now Rs 60 will be charged from passengers for canceling their tickets.

Why did the rules change?

In fact, Jharkhand social activist Sunil Kumar Khandelwal had complained about the huge amount charged by the Railways for canceling waiting tickets. He complained that Railways is earning huge amount only in the name of ticket cancellation charges. He explained with the example that a passenger had bought a ticket for Rs 190. The ticket was a waiting ticket which was canceled by the Railways itself if it was not confirmed. After the ticket was canceled by the Railways, he received only Rs 95, the remaining amount was recovered in the name of convenience fee. After this complaint, IRCTC and Railways changed their decision. Railways has decided that only a cancellation fee of Rs 60 per passenger fixed by the Railways will be levied on such tickets.

Changed the water bottle rule

Let us tell you that recently Railways changed the rules related to water bottles provided to passengers in Vande Bharat trains. Railways decided to give 500 ml bottles to passengers instead of 1 litre. Passengers will be given an extra 500 ml bottle free of cost as per their requirement. Railways has done this with the aim of saving water.
