The whole country is currently facing severe weather conditions. A period of severe cold has started in North India, while South India and Northeast states are facing heavy rains and thunderstorms.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding the weather conditions across the country till November 23, warning of cold with dry weather and dense fog in North India, while rain and hailstorms are expected in South India and the Northeast.

Severe cold and fog in North India

Dense fog has engulfed most of the states of North India. Cold conditions can be severe in the morning and evening in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and other states. Pink cold is being felt in Delhi and NCR at this time, but this cold is increasing further in combination with fog and smog. Due to smog in Delhi, the level of air pollution has also increased dangerously.

According to the Meteorological Department, till November 23, there will be dry weather in the entire North West India, but there will be no reduction in cold. There will be dense fog in all the states, which may cause traffic problems in the morning and evening. The rays of the sun may provide some relief during the day, but there will be a possibility of a drop in temperature.

Rain and hail in South India and Northeast states

Heavy rains will continue in South Indian states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman-Nicobar Islands. According to the Meteorological Department, due to the formation of cyclonic circulation in the Comorin region and adjoining areas, there is a possibility of rain, hail and thunderstorm in these areas till November 23. Light to moderate rain may occur at some places especially in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and other northeastern states. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of thunderstorm and lightning.

Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir

Snowfall continues in the hilly areas of North India, especially Jammu and Kashmir, causing further drop in temperature. Traffic may be affected in some areas of the valley due to snowfall. The Meteorological Department has predicted more snowfall here in the coming days.

Delhi-NCR Weather

The weather in Delhi-NCR will remain dry for the next few days, but there is a possibility of dense fog in the morning and evening. On the morning of 19 November 2024, the maximum temperature of Delhi was recorded at 22.77 degrees Celsius. The minimum and maximum temperatures during the day are expected to be around 14.05 degrees Celsius and 27.01 degrees Celsius respectively.

At the same time, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi has reached 494, which falls in the very severe category. It shows the level of air pollution, which is dangerous for Delhi and its surrounding areas. Due to air pollution, toxicity is also being felt in the air, due to which people are facing health problems. At present, there is a situation of fog in many areas of Delhi and a blanket of smog is looming over the city.

Weather forecast for the next 5 days

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather condition across the country will be like this for the next 5 days:

1. North India (Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand): There will be dry weather and dense fog here. Due to increasing cold, the cold of night and morning may increase.

2. South India (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman-Nicobar Islands, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh): There is a possibility of rain and hailstorm here. Thunderstorm and lightning warning has been issued especially in the Comorin area and surrounding areas.

3. Northeast region (Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura): There will be a possibility of rain and hailstorm in these areas as well. Thunderstorms and lightning may occur at some places.

4. Jammu and Kashmir: Snowfall will continue here, which may lead to a drop in temperature and increase in cold.

Weather warnings and precautions

The weather department has advised to be extra cautious due to the drastic changes in the weather till November 23. Road and air traffic may be affected due to fog in North India, so passengers should plan in advance. At the same time, farmers and the general public have been advised to be cautious in view of the rain and hailstorm in South India and the Northeast states.
