The free electricity scheme for up to 125 units for domestic consumers in Bihar has started from Friday. First of all, consumers with smart prepaid meters will get the benefit of this scheme.
Now the electricity of such consumers will not be cut till the consumption of 125 units, even if the balance in their prepaid meter is over. However, if the consumer does not recharge after 125 units, then the power supply will automatically stop as soon as the balance becomes negative.
Necessary changes made in the server of smart meter
According to the officials of the power company headquarters, necessary changes have been made in the server of the smart meter to implement the free electricity facility, which is being trialed today. After confirmation of successful operation of the server, the amount of 125 units will be automatically credited in the consumers’ bill for the month of July. Similarly, in the bills of postpaid consumers, the charge of 125 units will be deducted and the remaining amount will have to be paid.
Changes in the bills of postpaid customers too
The Revenue General Manager of South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited said that the billing date of all consumers is different. The day a consumer’s bill is generated, he will get the benefit of a discount of 125 units on July’s consumption from that day. Consumers with smart meters will be credited the balance in their account, while the price of 125 units will be directly reduced in the bill of postpaid consumers.
No charge up to 125 units
Under this scheme, consumers will not have to pay any charges for the first 125 units, but if the consumer uses 126 units or more of electricity, then he will have to pay for that additional unit as well as fixed charge and electric duty. That is, it will be mandatory to pay the full charge even for the additional consumption of one unit.
This will be the rate structure according to the unit
- As per the new rate structure, the bill will be ₹0 for up to 125 units.
- Kutir Jyoti consumers will have to pay ₹2.45 per unit
- ₹5.52 per unit to urban domestic (category-1 and 2) consumers
- ₹5.42 per unit to urban domestic (category-3) consumers
