Amrit Bharat Station Scheme 2025: A new history is going to be created in Indian Railways soon. A big step is being taken towards equipping railway stations with airport-like facilities. In the first phase of Amrit Bharat Station Yojana, about 1300 railway stations across the country are being renovated. In this sequence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 103 redeveloped stations through video conferencing from Bikaner, Rajasthan on 22 May.
This scheme is an important step taken towards ensuring a pleasant and smooth rail journey for the passengers. It is often seen that as soon as the passengers reach the railway station, they have to face crowd, chaos and inconvenience. To solve these problems, Amrit Bharat Yojana was started in 2023, which aims to not only make the stations state-of-the-art but also connect them with local culture and heritage.
What major changes will happen at the stations?
Each station is designed as per local requirements. It will include long-term infrastructure facilities like Roop Plaza, Parcel Hub, better city connectivity and green zones. The waiting area is being equipped with high-grade facilities including cafeteria, small stalls, executive lounge and separate zones for small meetings.
The platforms are also being renovated. Platforms of 760-840 mm height and 600 m long are being constructed at all stations. Also, better drainage and beautified drains will be developed.
Free Wi-Fi, LED display boards, and digital announcement systems will be installed in the station premises, which will be hidden in special decorative boxes to maintain the beauty of the station.
Special attention has been given to the disabled, the elderly and women. Facilities like ramps, Braille signage, special toilets and escalators will also be provided at the station.
Old and unused station buildings will be demolished and new buildings will be constructed only as per the requirement so that maximum space can be allocated for passenger amenities. Dust-resistant, washable and low-maintenance materials will be used.
Stations will be symbols of local identity
The most special thing about this plan is that each station is being designed according to the culture and tradition of that region. For example, the design of Ahmedabad station is inspired by the Sun Temple of Motera, while Gurugram station reflects the IT theme. Baleshwar (Orissa) station will have the influence of Jagannath temple, and stations in Tamil Nadu will see the influence of Chola art.
