The Government of India had decided to ban Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes by announcing demonetization on November 8, 2016. After banning Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, the government had issued new notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000.
However, later the government announced the ban of Rs 2000 notes as well. Now only Rs 500 notes are in circulation in India. Meanwhile, there are talks among the people that the government is now going to ban Rs 500 notes as well. It is being said that RBI will stop issuing Rs 500 notes by September 30, 2025.
The message is getting viral rapidly on Whatsapp
Actually, a message is becoming increasingly viral on the social media platform WhatsApp. This message claims that RBI has forbidden all banks to give Rs 500 notes through ATM till September 30, 2025. The message further states that RBI’s target is to stop the disbursement of Rs 500 notes from 75 percent of ATMs initially and then stop the disbursement of Rs 500 notes from 90 percent of ATMs by March 31, 2026. The message claims that later only Rs 200 and Rs 100 notes will be dispensed from ATMs.
Has RBI really given instructions to banks
This message being forwarded on WhatsApp on a large scale has raised many questions in the minds of common people. However, PIB Fact Check itself has taken cognizance of this viral message and has told the whole truth. PIB Fact Check said that the claim made in the message going viral on WhatsApp is completely false. According to PIB Fact Check, RBI has not given any such instructions to banks and 500 rupee notes will remain legal tender. PIB Fact Check has appealed to the people not to trust such false news and know the truth from the official source before trusting or forwarding such messages.
