Customers who depend on branches to avail various banking services may have to face problems in the next two-three days. Bank branches in many cities of the country are going to remain closed for three consecutive days from today.

Holiday for three days from today

First of all, on Friday (26 April 2024), the fifth day of the week, banks are going to remain closed in many cities of the country due to the Lok Sabha elections. Voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections starting this month is taking place today. Bank branches are going to remain closed today in all the places where general voting is taking place. After today, banks are going to remain closed in the entire country on Saturday, 27th April due to the fourth Saturday of the month and on 28th April due to Sunday.

Notification issued in these states

According to the RBI holiday schedule, the cities where banks are closed today due to the second phase of voting include Bengaluru, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Jammu. Governments of many states have issued notification of public holiday on Friday due to the second phase of voting. As Karnataka has said in the notification, there will be a public holiday in the respective areas on 26 April and 7 May 2024 due to the Lok Sabha elections.

Votes are being cast on these seats

This means that there will be a bank holiday in the seats where voting is being held today. Under the second phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024, voting is being held today on 26th April for these 89 seats in 13 states…

  • Assam: Karimganj, Silchar, Mangaldoi, Navagong, Kaliabor
  • Bihar: Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Bhagalpur
  • Chhattisgarh: Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, Kanker
  • Jammu and Kashmir: Jammu
  • Karnataka: Udupi Chikmagalur, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru North, Bengaluru Central, Bengaluru South, Chikballapur, Kolar.
  • Kerala: Kasaragod, Kannur, Vatakara, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Ponnani, Palakkad, Alathur, Thrissur, Chalakudy, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Mavelikkara, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Attingal, Thiruvananthapuram.
  • Manipur: Outer Manipur
  • Madhya Pradesh: Tikamgarh, Damoh, Khajuraho, Satna, Rewa, Hoshangabad, Betul
  • Maharashtra: Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Wardha, Yavatmal Washim, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani
  • Rajasthan: Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Ajmer, Pali, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore, Udaipur, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, Kota, Jhalawar-Baran.
  • Tripura: Tripura East
  • Uttar Pradesh: Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura.

Banks remained closed even in the first phase

There have already been many bank holidays during the month of April. Banks had remained closed for several days in the last week itself. First of all, there was a bank holiday on 17th April on the occasion of Ram Navami. After that, on April 19, due to the voting for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024, bank branches were locked at many places.
