Legal Shift: The End of GST Compensation Cess
This move marks the first major tobacco tax change in seven years. But it also signals a deeper shift in how India collects revenue. Parliament cleared the Central Excise Act amendments in December. And these new levies replace the old GST compensation cess framework used since 2017.
