Delhi airport hikes user charges for international passengers from April 16

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has increased user charges for international passengers from April 16. While there is no change in the fee for domestic passengers, for international passengers this hike may slightly increase their travel cost.

After the changes made for international passengers, now economy class passengers will have to pay Rs 659 as user charge, which is an increase of 404%. Whereas business class passengers will pay Rs 810, which is an increase of 528%.

For arriving international passengers, the user charge will be Rs 275 for economy class and Rs 345 for business class. Domestic passengers currently have to pay Rs 129 on departure and Rs 56 on arrival.

Why did Delhi Airport increase user charges?

Delhi Airport said that this increase is important to ensure operations, maintain quality and meet revenue needs. The Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) approved these changes after reviewing the proposal of Airport Limited. The new user charge structure is aimed at meeting the financial needs of the airport.

It is being said that due to this increase, the cost of air tickets may increase, but its impact will be on international passengers only for now.

80% domestic passengers at Delhi airport

Airport Limited had tried to increase the user charge for domestic passengers as well, but the Airport Authority had rejected this demand. The authority had said that the reason behind rejecting this demand is that 80% of the total air traffic at Delhi Airport is domestic passengers.

According to the authority, it is expected that domestic passengers will grow by 5.26 percent by 2025 and 6.72 percent by 2027. International passengers are expected to grow by 5.3 percent by 2026.
