Diwali Bonus : Following Uttar Pradesh, the Tamil Nadu government has also announced a Diwali bonus. The state government has stated that this time, the bonus will be accompanied by the benefit of ex-gratia.
Ahead of Diwali, bonuses have begun pouring in for central and state government employees. Following Uttar Pradesh, the Tamil Nadu government has also announced bonuses for its employees. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced a 20% bonus and incentive (ex gratia) for ‘C’ and ‘D’ category employees working in the state’s public sector enterprises.
According to a government notification, under the Bonus Amendment Act, 2015, the Tamil Nadu government has set a salary ceiling of ₹21,000 for employees and a monthly salary ceiling of ₹7,000 for bonus calculation. However, these limits will be relaxed when announcing bonuses and incentives for the financial year 2024-25.
Eligible employees working in profit-making state government public sector enterprises (PSUs) will receive an 8.33% bonus and an 11.67% ex gratia. These enterprises include the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, and the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.
Changed figures for these employees
The notification states that eligible employees of enterprises that do not have surpluses will receive an 8.33 percent bonus and 1.67 percent ex-gratia. These include the Tamil Nadu Housing Board and the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. Additionally, eligible employees of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board will receive an 8.33 percent bonus, while temporary employees of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation will receive an ex-gratia of ₹3,000.
How many employees will benefit?
According to the state government’s notification, a total of ₹376.01 crore will be distributed among 269,439 employees in the form of bonuses and ex-gratia. The state government has taken this decision to recognize the hard work of the employees and the profits of the enterprises. It is expected that the employees will receive this money before Diwali, so that they do not face any difficulties in spending during the festivals.
How much bonus will be given in UP?
The UP government has also announced a Diwali bonus for millions of its employees. The government has stated that this Diwali bonus will be a maximum of ₹7,000. According to a government notification, this Diwali bonus is expected to be received before the festival. 14.82 lakh employees in UP will benefit from this Diwali bonus. This bonus will be given only to non-gazetted government employees.
