Electricity Bill: Delhi’s electricity consumers to face 7 to 10 per cent hike in rates from May

0

Electricity Bill : Common people of Delhi are going to get a shock. Electricity bills of the people of the capital are going to increase. Electricity customers of Delhi will have to face an increase of 7 to 10 percent in the bills of May-June.

This increase has been done under the Power Purchase Adjustment Cost (PPAC), which the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has approved the three electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) to recover from the customers.

PPAC is the amount recovered from electricity generation companies due to increase in fuel costs such as coal and gas. It is added as a percentage on the fixed charge and energy charge (i.e. unit consumption) of the electricity bill.

Discom got approval

7.25% to BRPL

8.11% to BYPL

TPDDL has been allowed to charge 10.47% PPAC.

After this decision, lakhs of customers of Delhi will have to pay huge electricity bills in the summer.

The United Residents of Delhi (URD) has criticised the decision, calling it arbitrary and legally incorrect. They also asked why the PPAC rates are different for different discoms, when the cost of fuel is almost the same. Without PPAC recovery, discoms may face financial crisis. This increase is sure to increase the burden on the pockets of Delhi’s electricity consumers, especially in this summer season when electricity consumption is the highest.
