New Delhi. The country’s second busiest airport will be closed for 6 hours next month. All flights will be suspended due to maintenance work at Mumbai airport. The private airport operator has given this information.

According to the airport operator Adani Group, both the intersecting runways of the Mumbai airport will be repaired on October 18, 2022. About 800 flights are operated daily from its main runway 9/27 and other runway 14/32. In terms of movement of such a large number of aircraft, Mumbai Airport comes second after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

When will the airport be closed

Adani Group said that on October 18, the runway will be closed from 11 am to 5 pm due to runway repair work. It is part of the runway repairs done every year post monsoon, so that the faulty rain can be repaired again. During the repair, the edge light of runway 14/32 will also be fixed and the aeronautical ground light will also be upgraded.

What is the effect on passengers

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has said that all flights have already been rescheduled for the convenience of passengers during the closure of the runway. Due to this, passengers will not be inconvenienced even though flights are affected during maintenance. All flights between 11 am and 5 pm on 18 October have been rescheduled to any earlier or later time. Due to this, passengers will not face any problem in reaching their destination.

Mumbai Airport with a capacity of 90 million passengers operates the second highest number of flights in the country. When this airport works at its full capacity, it can handle the movement of 90 million passengers annually. After the Corona epidemic, there was a huge reduction in flights due to the ban, but now the number of passengers has started increasing again. A record 1,30,374 passengers arrived at the Mumbai airport in a single day on September 17, which is the highest after the Corona epidemic.
