Press Freedom News: Global Ranks Hit a 25-Year Low
Now a sad new report is out from the group Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Specifically, freedom for the news has hit its lowest point in 25 years. Indeed, the 2026 World Press Freedom Index shows a dark trend. Actually, RSF warns that doing news work is now being made into a crime. Therefore, more than half of all nations now have “bad” or “very bad” scores. In fact, this is the first time the map has looked this red since 2002. Simple as that.

Now even the big democracies are seeing their scores fall fast. Actually, the United States fell seven spots since Donald Trump took power.

First, RSF says Trump makes a habit of attacking those who write the news. Next, the group points to the arrest of Mario Guevara as a bad sign. Thus, the US now has a “problematic” rank of 64th. Furthermore, things are just as tough in Latin America. Specifically, Argentina fell 11 spots under Javier Milei. Additionally, El Salvador has dropped 105 spots since 2014. Now the Middle East and East Europe are still the most deadly zones. Actually, they have been the worst spots for 25 years.

First, Russia and Iran are both in the bottom ten spots. Next, Israel is down at rank 116. Thus, RSF says the army has killed over 220 news workers in Gaza. Additionally, at least 70 of them were killed while doing their jobs. Moreover, harsh leaders now use “emergency laws” to stop any critcs. Consequently, Russia sits at 172nd while Iran is at 177th out of 180 lands. Period.
