The country is facing two different weather conditions these days. On one hand, many parts of Northeast India have been drenched in rain and flood-like conditions have arisen, while on the other hand, the heat wave is still continuing in the northwestern states.

The temperature in many areas remains above 40 degrees, due to which people are suffering in the scorching heat. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a new warning and said that there will be heavy rain in many states of the country from June 14 to June 20.

Where will it rain heavily?

According to IMD, the next 7 days will be spent with heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds in some states. Alert has been issued in these states:

In South India:

  • Heavy rains are expected in Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Puducherry, Karaikal and Karnataka (coastal and interior) between June 14 and 20.
  • During this period, strong winds with a speed of 40-50 kmph and rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur at many places.

In western India:

  • Konkan, Goa, Saurashtra, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat may receive heavy rains from June 14 to 17. Stormy weather with strong winds may also prevail in these areas.

In east and central India:

  • Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will witness rainy season between June 15 and 19.
  • A warning of heavy rain has been issued in Bihar on June 19.

In North India:

  • There will be a series of rains in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand between June 14 and 19. During this period, there may be dust storms, storms and rain accompanied by thunder and lightning at many places.
  • The speed of winds can reach 50 to 70 km per hour, which may affect public life.

Where will there be light to moderate rain?

The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall in some states, where the weather may get some relief:

  • Light/moderate rain with thunderstorms is possible over Central Maharashtra and Gujarat on 14-15 June.
  • Thunderstorms, lightning and winds with speed of 40-50 km/hr are likely at some places in Madhya Pradesh between June 14-17.
  • Rain is also expected in eastern Madhya Pradesh on 16-17 June.
  • Rains may continue throughout the week in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim .

Period of heat and dust storm in Rajasthan

While monsoon has arrived in many parts of the country, Rajasthan is still waiting for monsoon. According to IMD:-

  • For the next 6 days, strong winds at the speed of 40-50 km/hr will blow in many parts of Rajasthan.
  • Some areas may be cloudy and light rain is also expected.
  • Due to this, there may be a slight drop in temperature and people may get temporary relief from the heat.

What did the weather experts say?

Meteorologists say that the southwest monsoon is slowly moving towards North India, but its speed in the northwestern states is slower than expected. Its effect has started to be seen in the Northeast and South India, due to which flood-like conditions have also persisted in some states.

Caution is necessary

IMD has appealed to the people to remain alert in the areas which are likely to be affected by rain and thunderstorms:

  • Avoid going out in areas prone to lightning.
  • Due to strong winds, the risk of falling trees and poles may increase, so be careful in open areas.
  • In states where there is a risk of floods, follow the warnings of the local administration.
