Heavy Rain Alert: The India Meteorological Department has predicted that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in many states of the country for the next seven days.
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rains may continue over the western coast of Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra and Goa during the next 7 days.
Southwest monsoon has entered the country. Monsoon will now advance in some more parts of Karnataka, entire Goa, some parts of Maharashtra and some more parts of Mizoram including some parts of Manipur and Nagaland. Conditions are favorable for the advancement of monsoon in some more parts of Maharashtra, South India and Northeast states. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue over Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra and Goa during the next 7 days. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala on 26 May. Apart from this, heavy to very heavy rains are likely in coastal and valley areas of Karnataka during 26 to 27 May.
IMD issued warning
According to the Meteorological Department, a low pressure area persists over South Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and adjoining areas of North Interior Karnataka. It is slowly moving eastward during the next few hours. It is likely to gradually weaken.
The upper air pressure is moving southward from the East Arabian Sea through North Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, North Telangana, South Chhattisgarh at low and middle tropospheric levels.
An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over western Uttar Pradesh and another cyclonic circulation over southwestern Rajasthan at low tropospheric levels. A low pressure area is likely to form over west-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal around May 27.
Heavy rain warning in South Peninsular India
- According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains at some places in Kerala and Mahe today i.e. on May 26. Apart from this, there is a possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds at the speed of 40 to 50 km per hour.
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely during 27th to 31st May. Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rains at isolated places is likely over coastal and south interior Karnataka during 26th to 27th May. This will be followed by heavy to very heavy rainfall during 28th to 31st May.
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over North Interior Karnataka during 26th to 27th May and heavy rainfall during 28th to 30th May.
- Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rains accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema and Telangana during the next 5 days.
Weather Forecast in Northeast India
- There is a possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds at the speed of 30 to 40 km per hour in Northeast India during the next 7 days.
- There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall in many areas. Sometimes heavy rains may occur at some places.
- Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh during 26-27 and 29-31 May.
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during 26-31 May and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on 28-29 May.
- Very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya on 30th and 31st May.
How will the weather be in East and Central India
- According to the India Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of sporadic to very widespread light and moderate rains accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph over West Bengal, Chhattisgarh during 26 to 29 May and West Bengal and Sikkim, Jharkhand, Odisha during 26 to 31 May.
- There is a possibility of rain with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds at the speed of 40 to 50 kmph in Madhya Pradesh during 26 to 29 May, and in Bihar during 26 to 31 May.
- Gale winds reaching 50 to 60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph are very likely over East Madhya Pradesh on 26th May and over Bihar on 26th May.
Possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in northwest India
- Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds at the speed of 40 to 50 kmph is likely in Uttarakhand during 26 to 31 May. Scattered to light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds at the speed of 40 to 50 kmph is likely in Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad during 27 to 30 May.
- There may be hailstorm at some places in Himachal Pradesh on 27th and 28th May.
