IMD Heavy Rain: Orange alert for heavy rain in these states till 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 July

Monsoon has now gained momentum across the country and with this the alarm bells have also started ringing. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rains in many states between 5 and 9 July 2025.

During this time, there is every possibility of weather deteriorating from North India to central and eastern parts. There is a risk of floods and landslides in hilly areas, while in the plains, life may be affected by lightning and strong winds.

In which states has Orange Alert been issued?

IMD has issued Orange Alert for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Chandigarh, East Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. This means that both vigilance and preparation are necessary due to heavy rains in these areas.

Alert in hill states: Himachal and Uttarakhand

Himachal Pradesh: Heavy rain warning in districts like Shimla, Solan, Mandi and Kinnaur from 5 to 7 July. Landslides and flash floods are expected in the mountains.
Uttarakhand: Heavy rain is expected in areas like Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag. The local administration has prohibited going near rivers and streams.

Effect of cyclonic circulation on central and east India

Madhya Pradesh: Due to cyclonic circulation, heavy rains are expected in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior.

Chhattisgarh: Torrential rains are expected in northern districts like Mahasamund, Raigarh, Jashpur, Surguja and Korba. Strong winds (30-40 km/h) and thunderstorms are also expected.

Relief and warning in Delhi-NCR, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh

Light to moderate rain is expected in Delhi and NCR for the next 5 days, which will give relief to people from the humid heat. Heavy rain warning has been issued in Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, while districts like Gorakhpur, Ballia, Banaras in eastern UP may face lightning and flood-like situation.

Rajasthan: Heavy rain in eastern districts, light showers in the west

-Continuous heavy rain is expected in eastern Rajasthan (Kota, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Udaipur etc.) from July 5 to 9.

-Light to moderate rain is possible in western districts like Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Jodhpur.

IMD’s warning and precaution

The Meteorological Department has clarified that there is a high possibility of incidents like waterlogging, traffic jams, falling trees, lightning, and landslides in the coming days. People have been appealed to: –

Stay away from rivers, reservoirs and low-lying areas.

– Do not take shelter in open fields or under trees during lightning.

– Avoid traveling in landslide-prone areas.

– Keep an eye on local administration and weather updates.
