Beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana benefit
While the price of a standard cylinder in India can be ₹942 or more, beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) receive a cylinder from the government for ₹642. They also receive a subsidy of ₹300 per cylinder.
When will the price decrease ?
If you’ve been waiting for domestic LPG cylinders to become cheaper, you may have to wait a little longer. It’s believed that the price of gas cylinders is unlikely to decrease in July. Therefore, consumers may see some relief by August or September.
The biggest reason behind this is the rising prices of LPG in the international market. Saudi Aramco, the world’s leading oil company, has increased the contract price (CP) of LPG for the month of June. The company has increased the price of propane by $10 per metric ton and the price of butane by $20 per metric ton. This directly impacts the cost of import-dependent countries like India.
Furthermore, while the actual supply cost of an LPG cylinder in India is ₹1,600, government oil companies are providing a subsidy and making it available to the general public at ₹942.
When did the prices increase?
The last increase was on June 7, when companies increased the price of domestic LPG cylinders by ₹29. Meanwhile, the rate of commercial cylinders increased from ₹42 to ₹53.50.
