India Population Census 2027 Dates: The central government has issued an official notification regarding the census. This census process will be completed by March 1, 2027, while the date of completion of the census in the hilly areas of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand will be October 1, 2026. Along with the census, caste census will also be conducted this time, which the government had announced some time ago.

Decision to conduct census in two phases

It has been decided to conduct Census-2027 in two phases along with the counting of castes. The reference date for Census-2027 will be 00:00 hours on the first day of March, 2027. That is, the census work will be completed by 1 March 2027. The last date for completion of the census for the Union Territory of Ladakh and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the snow-covered areas of the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be October 1, 2026.

The last phase of the census will be completed by March 1, 2027

The last phase of the census will start from February 2027 and will be completed by 01 March 2027 (reference date). With the release of the official notification, different agencies will now start their work. This process includes training the staff, going to people’s homes to collect data, making formats, appointing staff, etc. The last phase of the census will be completed by 1 March 2027. According to the information, the entire process will be completed digitally.

Census is done every 10 years, know how it works

Census is conducted once every ten years in India. Its purpose is to collect the population, social and economic status of the country and other important information so that the government can take right decisions in formulating policies and deciding plans.

The responsibility of conducting the census lies with the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner under the Home Ministry. A large number of government employees are deployed for this work. They go to every house and collect information from the people.
