A big news related to Kolkata Metro has come out, which is a relief for millions of residents and passengers of the city. Now the city’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is going to be directly connected to the metro network. Metro Railway Kolkata has announced that services on the 6.77 km long section of the Yellow Line (Noapara-Jaihind Airport) will start from next week.
Four new stations will be ready
There will be a total of four stations on this new section: Noapara, Dumdum Cantonment, Jessore Road and Jaihind Airport. Of these, Jessore Road station is built on the ground, while the rest are on high bridges and underground. About Rs 1,866 crore has been spent on this project and these stations have been equipped with modern facilities, such as elevators, escalators and adequate seating space. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate this section on August 22.
Travel to airport will become easier
With the start of this metro service, reaching the airport will not only be easy, but time will also be saved. People from areas like Baranagar, Dum Dum, Nagarbazar will also be able to travel directly to the airport.
Noapara station is connected to the Blue Line, which will make it convenient to travel to South Kolkata. Dum Dum Cantonment station is near the Sealdah-Bongaon section of Eastern Railway, which will provide the benefits of both rail and metro. Apart from this, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Sealdah-Esplanade section of the Green Line and the Hemant Mukhopadhyay-Beleghata section of the Orange Line on the same day. These new services will further strengthen metro connectivity in Kolkata.
