If you travel by metro train, then there is a good news for you. Soon you will be able to buy metro tickets from the app of Uber, a company providing app-based taxi and other services. Uber on Monday announced the launch of metro ticketing on its app. According to PTI news, the company also said that it has started with Delhi Metro. Uber said that this facility is going to be started in three more cities across India in 2025.
Will be able to buy QR-based tickets
ONDC Acting CEO and COO Vibhor Jain described Uber’s joining the ONDC network as a significant step in expanding access to reliable, interoperable digital infrastructure in India. Starting today, Uber users in the national capital will be able to plan their metro trips, purchase QR-based tickets and access real-time transit information within the Uber app, Jain said.
B2B logistics to be launched through ONDC network
According to the report, Uber said it will soon launch B2B logistics via the ONDC network, a solution that will allow businesses to request on-demand logistics from Uber’s delivery network, without the need for their own fleet. Uber on May 19 announced the launch of metro ticketing on the Uber app, powered by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), with Delhi Metro going live as the first launch city.
The company is taking advantage of digitalization in India
The company said this is Uber’s first integration with India’s leading digital public infrastructure and a major step towards making public transport more connected. The move follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed during Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s visit to India in 2024, in which Uber committed to collaborate with ONDC to advance the reach and impact of India’s digital public goods.
