If you withdraw cash from ATM but often do not get 100 and 200 rupee notes, then your problem is going to end in the coming days. Actually, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday ordered banks to increase the availability of these currency notes.
According to PTI news, RBI asked banks to withdraw 100 and 200 rupee notes from ATMs. Banks and White Label ATM Operators (WLAO) will have to implement this instruction in a phased manner.
Instructions to all banks and white label ATM operators
According to the news, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in a circular that in an effort to increase people’s access to frequently used denomination banknotes, it has been decided that all banks and White Label ATM Operators (WLAO) will ensure that their ATMs dispense Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes on a regular basis. According to the circular, by September 30, 2025, 75 percent of all ATMs (Automated Teller Machines) will dispense at least one cassette of Rs 100 or Rs 200 denomination banknotes.
There have been complaints from customers
By March 31, 2026, 90 percent of all ATMs will dispense bank notes of Rs 100 or Rs 200 denomination from at least one cassette. Customers have often complained that ATMs dispense less or no Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes. Mostly Rs 500 notes come out. After this new circular from RBI, such complaints will be reduced.
ATM fee rules will change from May 1
From May 1, 2025, the updated infrastructure for ATM transaction charges by the Reserve Bank of India will come into effect. This will change the free transaction limit, charges for additional transactions and interchange fee structure across the country. From May 1, customers will be entitled to a certain number of free ATM transactions every month. Under this, three transactions will be free in metropolitan areas and five in non-metropolitan areas. These transactions include both financial and non-financial activities.
