Sawan Shivratri 2025 : The month of Sawan is considered to be the most sacred time for the worship of Lord Shiva. In the year 2025, this auspicious month will start from July 11 and will continue till August 9.
In the entire month, especially Monday and Sawan Shivratri have great religious significance. Huge crowds gather in temples on Shivratri
On the day of Sawan Shivratri, there is a huge crowd of devotees in the temples of North India. The tradition of offering water, milk, Ganga water and Belpatra on Shivling is followed. Kanwar Yatra is at its peak on this day. Thousands of Kanwariyas carry water from Haridwar, Gangotri and other pilgrimage places and travel on foot to reach the Shiva temples of their respective areas. Due to this journey, traffic gets disrupted in many cities , making it difficult to reach schools.
Are schools closed?
Due to the crowd in temples on Shivratri and Kanwar Yatra, holidays have been declared in schools in many states. The purpose of this is to ensure the safety of children and to facilitate the movement of Kanwariyas. Especially in those areas where Kanwariyas pass through the roads or there is a lot of crowd in the temples. The government declares holiday as a precautionary measure.
School holiday has been announced in these districts
Schools will remain closed on 23 July in many districts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. Many private schools in Ujjain, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Badaun, Haridwar, Saharanpur, Ghaziabad have already issued notices to parents informing them about the holiday. Where the situation regarding the holiday is not clear, students and parents must confirm the information before going to school.
Why is Sawan Shivratri so special?
According to mythological belief, this is the day when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. On this day, Shiva devotees observe fast, perform Jalabhishek and participate in night vigil. Rudrabhishek, Bhajan-Kirtan and special worship are organized in temples. Women fast for the happiness and peace of the family, while the youth pray to Shiva for a good life partner.
In view of the Kanwar Yatra and Shivratri, the administration has made special preparations in various districts. At many places, arrangements have been made for route diversion, temporary parking, deployment of police force and monitoring through CCTV cameras so that peace and security is maintained.
