Inaugurating the ‘Centralized Information Management System’ (CIMS) at the 17th Statistics Day Seminar held at the RBI headquarters, Das said that commercial banks will start sending information on this next generation data system of RBI.

The RBI governor said that gradually Urban Co-operative Banks (USB) and Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) will also start registering their data on this system. The RBI governor said that the first weekly report to be released after the activation of CIMS focused on the central bank’s own operations and developments in the banking and financial markets. Its figures were recorded in this system till the week ended on 23 June.

He said the new system would process more data for public use. Apart from this, external users will also be able to analyze its data online. With this, the regulated units will also have access to their past data and will be able to assess the same on quality parameters in CIMS. Das said that some more new facilities will also be added to the new data system in the future. It also includes the facility of email-based reporting.

RBI had adopted CDBMS in the year 2002 as its first data system. Then in November 2004, a large part of the information focused on the economy was also put on the DBIE portal. With the passage of time, this system turned into an intensive management and processing center of financial and banking data. RBI’s data system DBIE received more than 2.5 lakh hits in May 2023.

Banks transfer these accounts to the ‘Depositor Education and Awareness Fund’ of the Reserve Bank if they remain unclaimed for a long time. Announcement to make portal

RBI had also recently announced to make a centralized portal for settlement of unclaimed deposits. Public sector banks had transferred an unclaimed amount of about Rs 35,000 crore to the Reserve Bank till February 2023. This amount was deposited in those accounts in which there was no transaction for 10 years or more. The unclaimed amount was linked to 10.24 crore accounts.

What is unclaimed amount

RBI has said that if there is no change in KYC, then Re-KYC can be done only by self-declaration.

RBI has advised customers should also be given the option to make such self-declaration through different non-face to face channels. RBI has said that customers need not visit their bank branch to update Know Your Customer (KYC) details if they have already submitted valid documents and have not changed their address. Is.

RBI has asked customers to contact their bank for more details on the options available for updating KYC details. RBI has said that a fresh KYC process should be initiated only if the documents in bank records do not conform to the current list of ‘officially valid documents’. Fresh KYC is also required if the document submitted earlier has expired.

In December, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das had clarified in a press conference that banks should not insist on the customer calling the branch.
