Delhi University Timings: Delhi University has decided to change the timings of all its colleges. Teachers are unhappy with this decision due to lack of resources.

Delhi University is considered the number 1 university in the country. DU is also included in the list of top universities in the world. Be it students or faculty members, everyone has been praising the study environment, campus life and flexible schedule in Delhi University. But recently the DU administration has taken a decision which has created a stir within the colleges. Now a decision has been taken to increase the working hours in many colleges of DU .

Delhi University Earlier, classes used to run from 9 am to noon. But now there is talk of keeping the colleges open from 8 am to 8 pm (Delhi University Colleges). The DU administration says that it was necessary to take this step in view of extra-curricular activities and new academic demands apart from classes . At the same time, a large part of the faculty is not liking this new schedule at all. Teachers say that this change will increase mental and physical pressure on them.

Why was the study timing changed in Delhi University?

According to the Delhi University administration, under the National Education Policy ( NEP) 2020, emphasis has been laid on the overall development of students. For this , it has been considered necessary to promote activities like seminars, workshops and skill development sessions in colleges apart from classes . For this reason, the working hours of the college are being extended . This will enable students to get practical exposure along with studies and this will also improve their personality.

What is the reason for the faculty’s displeasure?

On the other hand, many professors and teachers associations of Delhi University say that the new schedule will increase their workload. They argue that there is already a shortage of professors/teachers in many departments . In this situation, if the working hours are increased, they will have to take more classes . This is likely to affect research work and personal commitments. Many faculty members are considering this as a kind of exploitation . They have conveyed their views to the DU administration.

What are the students saying?

Students are divided on the issue of 12 hours study schedule in Delhi University. Some students feel that extra time will help them in areas like cultural events, placements and personality development along with studies . At the same time, many other students believe that staying in college for long hours can be problematic in terms of commuting and safety , especially for girls who come from far-off places to study.

The post Delhi University Changes College Timings: Classes to Continue Till Late Night! first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.
