Income Tax Return: Today we are telling you here which documents will be needed before filing ITR for the financial year 2022-23.

The process of filing Income Tax Return has started. Income Tax Department has issued new forms to fill ITR. Changes have also been made in some forms. The last date for filing ITR is 31 July 2023. If an income tax payer wants, he can also file his ITR. Now returns are filed online. Even sitting at home, you can handle this important work very easily.

To file the return (ITR Filing), you will have to do some preparation in advance. You have to collect the necessary documents with you while filing ITR. By the way, even if you get the returns filed by the CA, you have to collect the documents related to income and expenses and give them to the CA. We are telling you which documents will be required before filing ITR.

1. Form 16

If you are a salaried individual, then this is one of the most important documents for you to file your ITR. Form 16 is a kind of TDS certificate, which is considered the most important document during ITR filing. It is mandatory for the employer to issue it to its employees. This form is in two parts, in which tax deduction in salary is mentioned on behalf of your employer during a financial year.

2. Home loan statement from Bank/NBFC

If you have taken home loan from any bank or other financial institution, do not forget to collect the loan statement for the last financial year. It will provide you the break up details of how much principal and interest has been repaid by you. This statement is required as both proof of source of information and proof for filing your income tax return. Under section 24, you can take advantage of the exemption of home loan interest payment.

3. Tax Saving Investment Proof

All tax saving investments and expenses are eligible for deduction under section 80C, 80CCC and 80CCD. Through this, you can claim tax savings of only Rs 1.50 lakh during a financial year. You need to carry these investment proofs with you.

4. Bank and Post Office Interest Certificates

In this year’s ITR forms, information will also be sought from taxpayers about the source of interest income, such as interest on savings account or interest on fixed deposits or interest on other income. Usually the interest income earned is taxable, but if the interest income is up to Rs 10,000 during a year, you can claim it under section 80TTA of Income Tax.

5. Securities Statement

Securities Statement or Holding Statement provides a comprehensive record of all transactions relating to securities like equity, mutual funds, bonds and debentures during the financial year.

6. Documents related to capital gain

If you have received capital gain through sale of property, mutual funds and equity shares, then you should also keep its documents with you. You have to mention this during ITR filing.

7. It is mandatory to provide Aadhaar details to successfully file Aadhaar Card ITR. As per section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, it is mandatory to mention Aadhaar during ITR filing.

8. Details of all the banks

If you have multiple bank accounts, then you will have to give details of all the bank accounts. In case of not doing this, you can also come in difficulties. So do not forget to give this information during ITR filing.

9. Salary Slip

In this time’s ITR forms, you will also have to provide your salary slip, in which your salary breakup will be mentioned. It will contain all the information like your basic salary, dearness allowance and house rent allowance.

The post Income Tax Return: Taxpayers should keep these documents ready before ITR filing, check list here first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

Income tax notice: The Income Tax Department keeps the news of every person who pays income tax. It is mandatory for every person who pays tax (Income Tax Payer) to fill ITR (Income Tax Return).

In such a situation, many rules have been made by the department regarding filling of ITR. If you violate these rules or make some mistakes in filling ITR, then a notice is issued by the Income Tax Department. One such notice is Letter of Intimation, which is sent under section 143(1) of Income tax notice. Let us know when and why this notice comes.

What is letter of intimation?

Letter of Intimation is a kind of notice which tells whether the tax paid by you is correct or not. While filing income tax return, if you have made any mistake in filling the interest information, or if any other minor mistake has been made, then you may get such a notice. This notice tells that whatever mistakes you have made while filing income tax return, correct them.

When can income tax notice come?

If you have paid less tax than your liability while filing income tax return.

While filing income tax return, if you have paid more tax than your liability, or if you have paid the correct tax.

Experts believe that such notice often comes to every tax payer. If you do not receive such a notice, you can assume that your return has not been processed.

Reply to the notice soon

This type of notice is sent on the mail by the Income Tax Department. The tax notice under 143(1) is called Notice of Demand. That is, if you have any outstanding tax liability, then you should pay it within 20 days from the date of receipt of this message. If you delay in this, then after 30 days have passed, you will have to pay monthly interest at the rate of one percent.

Taxpayers who could not file their ITR till 31 July 2022 for some reason, the government has given them another chance. They can fill their ITR till 31 December 2022. However, for this they will now have to pay a late fee of Rs 5000.

If still they do not file ITR, then next year this fee will be double i.e. Rs 10,000. Keep in mind that this does not include those people for whose ITR audit is necessary. There is also some relief in this for such people whose total income does not exceed Rs.5 lakh.

Dr. Suresh Surana, founder of RSM India, says that for those whose total income does not exceed Rs. 5 lakh, the late fee will also be limited to Rs. 1000 only. Significantly, late filing of ITR is not only late fee but also interest has to be paid on tax. This interest is charged on a monthly basis. As per the IT Act, interest up to 1% can be levied on the amount of tax.

What will happen if ITR is not filed?

Suresh Surana explains that if the income tax payer does not file ITR in time, the Income Tax Department has the right to impose a fine equal to 50% of the unreported income on the taxpayer. If the department feels that the ITR has not been filed intentionally, then the defaulter can be jailed for 6 months to 7 years.

ITR Filing Rules: Many times due to non-availability of necessary documents, or due to non-updation, people’s income tax return remains stuck in half and people may forget to file their return. The Income Tax Department is taking special steps for such people.

There is important news for those who pay income tax. Now you are going to get a big advantage. If you also fill your income tax return regularly, and for some reason have not been able to complete your filing, then now information is being given by the department in this regard. The department is sending information to such people telling where their filing is stuck and how much has been filled.

Income tax department is giving big facility

Many times, due to non-availability of necessary documents, or due to non-update, people’s income tax return remains stuck in half and people may forget to file their return. Many times such cases also come to the fore that after the due date is over, people lazily do not file ITR returns. In such a situation, the Income Tax Department is now alerting these people by sending messages.

It is necessary to fill ITR

Significantly, it is mandatory to fill ITR only for those who come under the purview of income tax. Under this, those whose annual income exceeds Rs 2.5 lakh must file income tax returns. It is necessary to file ITR. Under the Income Tax Act, the exemption limit has been fixed at Rs 3 lakh for senior citizens and Rs 5 lakh for very senior citizens, that is, it becomes mandatory for you to pay tax if you have income above this. Even if your TDS is being deducted somewhere, you still need to pay income tax. It is also necessary to verify ITR after ITR filing.

Verify online

If you have not verified the ITR, then there is no point in filing your return, that is, your return will be treated as cancelled. You can use Aadhaar OTP or EVC generated through bank account, net banking or demat account to verify ITR. Apart from this, you can also verify it using Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).

Tax on Income: For the year 2021-22, ITR can be filed till 31 July 2022. If you have not filed your tax return yet, then do it immediately, the government has completely rejected the matter of increasing the deadline. That is, if the ITR is filed after the deadline, then a penalty will also have to be paid.

The process of filing income tax return has started from July 15. If you have not yet filed your tax, then fill it immediately. Meanwhile, the government has also made it clear that now the deadline for filing income tax returns will not be extended. That is, only a few days are left for the last date to come. On the other hand, if you file ITR after this, then you will have to pay a penalty. Let us tell you that this time some people will also get an additional exemption of Rs 2.5 lakh in filing ITR. Come on, how are you Janet?

Tax slab starts from 2.5 lakhs

It is worth noting that generally people below 60 years of age fall in the tax bracket if their annual income is more than 2.5 lakhs. That is, if their income is more than 2.5 lakhs annually, then they start getting tax. In general, 5 percent tax is deducted on Rs 2.5 lakh to 5 lakh per annum.

Who and how will get the extra discount?

Now let’s talk about who and how will get extra discount? Senior citizens, whose age is between 60 years and 80 years, also have to pay tax. But for people in the age group of 60 to 80 years, the tax bracket starts when there is an annual income of Rs 3 lakh. Accordingly, these people will have to pay tax after earning an annual income of Rs 3 lakh. That is, these people get an extra discount of 50 thousand rupees.

How to get extra discount of Rs 2.5 lakh?

Apart from this, some people have also been kept in the category of Very Senior Citizen, that is, those who are above 80 years of age have also been given extra exemption in filing tax. That is, people with such Very Senior Citizen category come in the tax bracket only if they have an annual income of more than five lakhs. Now according to this, these people get an additional exemption of 2.5 lakhs as compared to the ordinary taxpayer.

The post Income Tax Slab: 2.5 lakh exemption will be available if you fill ITR, tax calculation will be done after 5 lakh, know how first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.
