New Delhi. There is good news for businessmen filing GST returns. In view of the technical glitch in the GST portal, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBIC) has extended the last date for filing GSTR-1 form to January 13.

Earlier, this deadline was January 11. The main reason for extending the deadline is technical glitches, but it has also been kept in mind that January 11 is a Saturday. Which is not a working day for multinational companies.

It is worth noting that due to the GST portal going down on January 10, apart from filing GSTR-1 form, many other tasks of businessmen were halted. Tasks like retrieving old data and responding to government notices were halted. This was followed by a post on GSTX’s official handle, GST Tech, which said, “An incident report is being sent to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs to consider extending the filing date.” Thank you for your cooperation and patience!”

If the deadline had not been extended, the loss would have been incurred.

Delay in filing GSTR-1 could affect GSTR-2B generation. This could lead to difficulties for buyers in claiming Input Tax Credit (ITC). Delay in ITC could have a negative impact on the cash flow of companies, as they may have to make GST payments in cash. This could have created a lot of problems for companies that avail large amounts of input credit. In view of this, the CBIC informed about the extension of the last date for filing GST returns by posting on X late on Friday evening.

What was the matter?

The GST Network (GSTN) portal fell victim to a technical glitch. Due to this, businessmen across the country could not file GSTR-1 returns on January 10. GSTN on Friday informed on social media platform X that the portal was undergoing maintenance due to a technical glitch and it would be operational by 12 noon. However, later taxpayers received a new message stating that the portal would be available only after 3 pm. But even after this, the problem did not go away.
