The government has tightened the rules for claiming tax benefit on charity. Tax benefits can be claimed on donations made to recognized charitable institutions or NGOs. This tax benefit is available under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961 .

Now the government has changed the rules for claiming tax benefits under this section. Now a certificate like TDS will be necessary for this. You will have to download this certificate from the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. Let us know about this in detail.

What is the new provision?

As per the new provision of section 80G, the donation certificate will be considered as proof of donation. It has to be downloaded from the income tax portal. Earlier, this certificate was not required to claim tax benefits on donations. This rule was applicable till the financial year 2020-21. Then the tax benefit could be claimed with the help of a receipt issued by the institution to which the donation is being made. After that the government changed this rule.

Must download donation certificate

The Income Tax Department has made the rules for availing other benefits including claiming tax benefits online. Now the process of claiming tax-benefit on donations under section 80G has also been made online. Now the donations received by charitable institutions are matched against the claims made by the taxpayers.

For this, it is necessary for the Charitable Institution or NGO to put the statement of all the donations received in a financial year on the website of the Income Tax Department. Apart from this, it is necessary to issue a separate certificate to the person doing the charity.

Donation statement has to be filed before May 31

The charity receiving institution or NGO has to file the statement of donation in Form 10BD. It is required to be filed electronically on the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. It is necessary to file the statement of donation for the institution or NGO before 31st May of every financial year.

understand with the help of example

We can understand this easily with the help of an example. Suppose you donate Rs 1 lakh to a recognized organization on August 1, 2022. This donation is done in the financial year 2022-23. The company receiving the donation will have to submit its statement on the website of the Income Tax Department by May 31, 2023.

When you file your income tax return for the financial year 2022-23, you will have to give complete information about the donation certificate. The Income Tax Department will match the information given by you with the statement of donation filed by the institution. Your claim of tax benefit will be approved only after matching it.

Union Budget Changes: About three weeks are left for the presentation of the general budget for the financial year 2023. This will be the fifth budget to be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

This will be the last full budget of the government before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. That’s why the government’s effort is also to please everyone from the salaried class to the farmers. On the other hand, every section is pinning a lot of hopes on the Modi government. In the last few years, the Modi government has made many changes regarding the budget. A change in that was made by the government keeping in mind the tax payers. But even today the situation regarding it is not clear among many people.

The claim of tax exemption in 7-10 ways in the old tax regime

was a change in the alternative income tax system introduced by the government in the General Budget 2020-21. The system of new tax regime and old tax regime was started in 2020-21 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Tax pair has to select any one of these two. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday that people of low income group can claim tax exemption in 7-10 ways in the old tax regime.

Government brought another tax system

in 2020 Actually, the ‘New Tax Regime’ introduced in 2020 is different from the traditional tax system (Old Tax regime) that has been running since independence. In the old tax regime, you can claim various types of deductions including 80C, 80D, HRA. But you cannot claim any kind of deduction in the new tax slab. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also said that in 2020, the government brought another system with the old tax regime. There is no exemption in this, but it is simple and the tax is less. The Finance Minister said that I had to make seven slabs so that there are low rates for the people of low income group.

Income up to Rs 2.5 lakh tax free

In the new tax regime, income up to Rs 2.5 lakh is tax free. After this, 5 percent on income from 2.5 lakh to 5 lakh rupees, 10 percent on income from 5 lakh to 7.5 lakh rupees, 15 percent on income from 7.5 lakh to 10 lakh rupees, on income from 10 lakh to 12.5 lakh rupees. 20 per cent, 25 per cent on income between Rs 12.5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh and 30 per cent on income above Rs 15 lakh.

It is also important to understand this tax system.

Similarly, under the old tax system, income up to Rs 2.5 lakh is tax free. After this, 5 percent tax is levied on income between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh. Income between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh is taxed at 20 per cent and income above Rs 10 lakh and above is taxed at 30 per cent. Sitharaman said that the benefits of the old tax regime have not been removed, rather the new exemption-free tax regime is an alternative form of the income tax return system.

Old Tax Regime

Income up to 2.5 Lakh—-0% Tax
Income up to Rs 2,50,001 to 5 Lakh—-5% Tax Income
up to Rs 5,00,001 to 7.5 Lakh—-20% Tax
7 Income
from Rs.10,00,001 to Rs.10 lakhs —-20%
tax
30% tax on income above Rs.

New Tax Regime

Income up to 2.5 lakhs—-0% tax
Income from 2,50,001 to 5 lakhs—-5% tax
Income from 5,00,001 to 7.5 lakhs—-10% tax
7 Income
from Rs.10,00,001 to Rs.10
lakh—–15%
tax 30% tax on income above Rs.

Income Tax Rules Change: Many income tax rules have changed from today. After the start of the second quarter of the financial year 2022-23, three major changes in the income tax rules proposed in the Union Budget 2022 have come into effect from today. In which a rule has also been included for doubling the late fee on PAN-Aadhaar linking.

After the start of the second quarter of the financial year 2022-23, three major changes in the income tax rules proposed in the Union Budget 2022 have come into effect from today. In which a rule has also been included for doubling the late fee on PAN-Aadhaar linking. From today, the late fee for PAN-Aadhaar seeding has been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000.

In addition, one percent tax deduction at source (TDS) on all cryptocurrency transactions from Q2FY23 will be applicable from today. Meanwhile, from today 10 per cent TDS on monetary benefits received through sales promotion on social media influencers and doctors has also come into effect.

3 important changes in income tax rules will be implemented from today.

Double fee for PAN-Aadhaar linking

The last date for Aadhaar-PAN linking has ended on 30 June 20222. As per CBDT guidelines, if a person links his PAN with Aadhaar after 31 March 2022 to 30 June 2022, he will have to pay a late fee of ₹ 500. However, if a person fails to link PAN with Aadhaar by June 30, 2022, he will have to pay double the penalty of ₹ 1,000 for PAN-Aadhaar seeding from July 1, 2022. Now that we have reached the second quarter of FY 22-23, therefore, an individual has to pay Rs 1,000 for PAN-Aadhaar seeding.

TDS on cryptocurrency

After levying 30 per cent flat income tax on cryptocurrencies with effect from 1st April 2022, the Government of India in the Union Budget 2022 had proposed an additional TDS of 1 per cent on cryptocurrency transactions, irrespective of profit or loss to the investor. The budget proposal has become effective from today. However, an investor will be able to claim refund of TDS levied on loss transactions. Hence, cryptocurrency investors are advised to file ITR.

Changes in income tax rules for doctors

In the Union Budget 2022, the Government of India has added a new section 194R to the Income Tax Act 1961. This new section proposes 10 per cent TDS on doctors and social media influencers on profits received through sales promotion. This budget proposal has come into force from 1st July 2022 i.e. today. However, TDS will be applicable only if the cost of profit is ₹20,000 or more in a financial year.

Know what is section 194R

Tax to be deducted before grant of profit or perquisite to any person. There may be several stages in the grant of benefits/perks to the resident recipient. There cannot be a single rule to determine the stage at which tax will be deducted. It has to be understood with reference to the special benefit or perquisites to be provided to the recipient. Before reaching the point of ‘providing’ the benefit or perquisite, it has to be ensured that the tax has been deducted.

How does section 194 work?

If a private doctor is receiving samples from a pharmaceutical company and the cost of all such samples exceeds Rs 20,000 in a financial year, it will attract 10 per cent TDS. However, if the doctor is working in a private hospital, in that case 10 percent TDS will be levied on the hospital. It is important to know that section 194R does not apply to government entities. Therefore, if a doctor working in a government hospital is receiving free medical samples, he is not required to pay 10 per cent TDS.

The post Income Tax Rules Change: Many rules of income tax changed from today, you need to know; Otherwise… first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.
