Vande Mataram: New Rules for the National Song

The Centre has shared new rules for Vande Mataram. Specifically, these rules come from the Ministry of Home Affairs. However, the change aims to give the song more honor. Therefore, you will see a new order at official events.

Vande Mataram to Play First

First, the song must play before the national anthem. Specifically, this applies when both songs are part of one event. Then, the anthem will follow right after the song ends. Actually, this is a big shift in how events work. Therefore, the national song now leads the way.

New Rules for Standing

First, you must stand still when the song plays. Specifically, you should stand at attention to show respect. Then, this rule applies to all formal state functions. Actually, there is one small exception for films. Therefore, you do not have to stand in a cinema hall.

All Six Stanzas are Back

First, the full version of the song is now mandatory. Specifically, it has six stanzas and lasts over three minutes. Then, this version includes parts that were cut years ago. Actually, it is the original work of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. Therefore, the song is now much longer than it used to be.

Rules for Schools and Events

First, schools should start the day with this song. Specifically, they must teach kids how to sing it well. Then, the song will play when the President arrives. Actually, drum rolls will help people know it is starting. Therefore, the song will be a key part of daily school life.

[Table: National Song vs National Anthem (2026 Rules)]

Reality Check

Reality Check: This new rule is part of a 150-year celebration. Still, some groups say the long version is too hard to sing. In fact, the anthem is only 52 seconds long. Therefore, the total time for both songs will now be quite long. Recently, the Prime Minister spoke about the song’s deep history. Now, the government wants every citizen to know all the verses.

The Loopholes

The Loopholes: You do not have to stand if the song is in a movie. Actually, standing in a dark hall could cause a mess. In fact, the rule only targets formal state and school events. Therefore, you can still enjoy a film without any breaks.

What This Means for You

Recently, the rules for national symbols have become very strict. Now, you should learn the lyrics to all six stanzas. First, check the new 2026 guide on the official site. Then, practice the song so you can sing with the crowd. Next, make sure you know when to stand up at events. Indeed, showing respect is a key part of being a good citizen.

Next Steps

Watch the official video of the full six-stanza song. Then, download the lyrics sheet to help you learn the verses. Would you like me to find the lyrics for all six stanzas in Hindi?
