The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented a new rule from July 11, 2025. Now if the FASTag is not properly affixed to the vehicle’s windshield, they will be immediately blacklisted.

Such FASTags will be put in the ‘loose FASTag’ category and action will be taken. NHAI said that some people deliberately do not affix the FASTag on the vehicle’s windshield, but scan it manually when they reach the toll. This leads to congestion at the toll, system glitches and sometimes wrong transactions. NHAI said in a press note, now toll agencies and contractors have been instructed that if any vehicle tries to pay the toll with a loose FASTag, then send a report immediately. On receiving the report, that FASTag will be immediately blacklisted or hotlisted.

Why do people do this?

It is necessary to put the FASTag on the vehicle’s windshield, but some people keep it in their hands to cheat the system. Like trying to pay less toll by putting the FASTag of a small vehicle on a big truck. Changing the tags in different vehicles to change the calculation of the toll. Trying to cross the toll without paying the charge. In such cases, the problem of chargeback or refund from the bank also arises.

Loose FASTag slows down the FASTag system. Sometimes people pay less toll by using the wrong category tag, which causes losses to the government and the toll company. If scanned manually, the line at the toll increases and the advantage of automatic tolling is lost. In such cases, sometimes there are fights at the toll. There is a problem of long lines. Therefore, the best way for honest vehicle owners is to properly affix the FASTag on the vehicle’s windshield.

Why is it difficult to identify a loose FASTag?

Currently, toll scanners at many locations only read the data on the tag. They are unable to identify whether the tag is affixed to the same vehicle or not. If ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) technology is fully implemented, identification may be easier, but currently many vehicles do not have ANPR number plates or they are not affixed properly. In some states, it is not even mandatory to affix ANPR plates.

What will be the impact on vehicle owners?

If your FASTag is not affixed on the toll booth and you are caught scanning it in your hand, NHAI can immediately blacklist your FASTag. Once blacklisted, the FASTag will not work on tolls and you will have to pay the toll in cash. Getting a new FASTag will cost both time and money. Therefore, always affix the FASTag properly on the vehicle’s windshield. Avoid showing the FASTag by holding it in your hand, otherwise your FASTag may be blacklisted and you may face difficulty while travelling.

FASTag Rules: If you also have a car and you often travel on the highway, then this news is useful for you. If you do not pay attention to the rules changed from today, then you may face problems on the highway at any time.

New rules have come into effect for FASTag users from August 1. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has issued new rules related to KYC.

It is necessary to complete KYC details by 31 October

According to the new rules, the companies which issued Fastag 3-5 years ago, will have to complete the KYC details of all Fastags by 31 October. This clearly means that it is necessary to update your KYC to avoid interruption in service. Apart from this, Fastags older than five years will also have to be replaced. Therefore, people who have old vehicles and have old Fastags installed on their cars will also have to take care of this.

Also Read: New Rules 1 August: These 6 big changes have been implemented in the country from today

It is necessary to link the registration number and chassis number.

It is necessary to link all Fastags to the vehicle’s registration number and chassis number. After this rule, the buyer of a new vehicle will have to update his registration number within 90 days. The companies providing Fastag will also have to upload clear photos of the front and side of the car to make identification of the vehicle easier.

Such people will have to pay double toll

Fastag should also be linked to a mobile number so that communication can be done easily and updates can be received. The last date for fulfilling all KYC rules related to Fastag is 31 October 2024. Earlier, news came that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has taken strict action against those who deliberately do not install Fastag on the windscreen of the car.

Under this, NHAI has tightened its grip on those who knowingly do not put Fastag on their vehicle’s windscreen. Those who do not have Fastag on their windscreen will now have to pay double the toll tax. Not only this, those who repeatedly violate Fastag rules can also be blacklisted.

To travel between 4 big cities of UP, you will soon have to pay toll again. National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has made a plan to sell about 800 km long highways across the country to private companies, which will collect toll from the drivers traveling on it for the next 20 years.

Out of this, 333 km highway is only in UP. This time NHAI has decided to sell the highways of 3 states of the country to private companies. Apart from UP, Odisha and Tamil Nadu are also included in this.

Under the Highway Monetization Scheme, NHAI gives the responsibility of collecting toll to private companies through Toll Operate Transfer (ToT). This time auction bids have been invited to hand over 3 highways to private hands. Under the monetization scheme, in the first round, a total of 801.7 km of highway will be handed over to private companies for toll collection.

Which cities of UP will be affected?

According to NHAI, a total of 333.4 km of highways in UP are to be handed over for toll collection. These highways will be built on two sections and will affect a total of 4 cities. The first section will be Kanpur-Lucknow-Ayodhya, while the second section will be Ayodhya-Gorakhpur. This means that now toll will have to be paid afresh to go from Kanpur to Gorakhpur.

Check Details here

Talking about the distanceof highway auction in other states, in Odisha, NHAI will hand over the Chandikhol-Bhadrak and Panikholi-Rimuli sections of highway to private companies for toll collection. The total distance of these two sections will be 283.8 km. At the same time, a total of 184.5 km of highway of Trichy-Thanjavur and Madurai-Tuticoran sections of Tamil Nadu will be presented for auction.

Thousands of crores received from 4 sections last year

NHAI had handed over 4 sections to private companies for about Rs 15,968 crore last year. The work of collecting toll on these highways is done by KKR-led Highway Infrastructure Trust, Cube Highway, IRB Infra Trust, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority Fund, National Investment and Infra Trust and Adani Group. NHAI takes a lump sum amount from these companies and these companies collect toll for the next 20 years.

22 crores per kilometer:

Analysts believe that the cost of highway monetization is Rs 22 crore per kilometer. However, it can also change due to the number of vehicles and the movement of commercial vehicles. Let us tell you that NHAI has set a target of earning Rs 54 thousand crore by selling highways for the current financial year. Last year, the target was to raise Rs 40,227 crore. This year, the target is to raise Rs 8 thousand crore through projects and Rs 46 thousand crore through toll transfer.

Toll tax has increased in UP. The increased rates have come into effect from midnight of 2 and 3 May. 5 to 25 rupees more tax will have to be paid at the toll plazas of the state. Toll tax has started being levied on the basis of the rates applicable from last night. After the removal of the code of conduct, the impact on people’s pockets is now visible.

Those who drive vehicles on the highways of Uttar Pradesh will now have to pay more toll. There will now be an additional burden on the pockets of those traveling on national highways. Actually, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to implement the increased rates of toll tax from June 3. It was banned till now due to the code of conduct. This will have a direct impact on about three lakh small and heavy vehicles that travel daily in and out of the district. NHAI Project Director Saurabh Chaurasia said that now drivers will have to pay 5 to 25 rupees more toll tax than before.

Increase by NHAI

Toll tax has been increased by NHAI. Toll tax has been increased after the increase in dearness allowance. Toll tax was to be increased from June 1, but it could not be implemented due to the implementation of the election code of conduct. After the completion of the last phase of voting on June 1, NHAI decided to implement the increased rate of toll tax from midnight on June 2.

Toll increased by 3% in Ghaziabad-Noida

Going to Meerut and Hapur has become expensive from Sunday night. Earlier, the toll for going to Meerut was Rs 160, now it has been increased to Rs 165. The toll has been increased by around 3 percent. It is being told that this time the toll has been increased less compared to last year, whereas usually every year there is an increase of 5 percent. The same increase has been made on the toll of Eastern Peripheral Expressway and NH-9 as well. The pockets of people traveling with monthly passes have also been burdened. Vehicles going to Hapur on NH-9 will have to pay Rs 170 for passing through Chhijarsi toll plaza.

At present, one had to pay Rs 165 here, but if you return within 24 hours, then only Rs 250 will be charged as toll. If you get a monthly pass, then you will have to pay Rs 5595 for it, but you can make a maximum of 50 rounds in a month, but only Rs 85 will be charged as toll for a single round of a commercial vehicle registered in Hapur district.

Ghaziabad: On January 15, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had directed all drivers to get KYC done for Fastag. If KYC is not done by January 31, Fastag will become inactive. Then if you pass through toll, you will have to pay double the tax.

About 70 percent of Fastag holders of Ghaziabad have got KYC done, but still 30 percent of Fastag holders have not been KYCed. NHAI Project Director Arvind Kumar says that there are still 2 days left. In this, drivers should get their Fastag KYC done, so that they can avoid paying double toll tax.

Fastag users will have to follow the one vehicle, one Fastag policy. All previously issued Fastags will have to be returned to the respective banks. Now only new Fastag accounts will remain active. He said that one vehicle, one Fastag campaign has been started to reduce the waiting time of toll plazas and bring transparency in collecting toll through Fastag. NHAI has taken this initiative in response to recent reports of issuing multiple Fastags for one vehicle and issuing Fastags without KYC in violation of RBI norms.

Problems faced by old vehicle drivers

Fastag is available only on new vehicles from the agency, but in the old vehicles, Fastag has been installed from the bank. Some drivers do not put Fastag on the windscreen but keep it on the dashboard. Then they move ahead after showing when the toll comes. A Fastag is used in this way in many vehicles. Also, multiple Fastags are issued on the same vehicle. If any crime happens then it becomes difficult to catch it. Now if a vehicle has a Fastag, the vehicle will be completely identified when it passes through the toll.

Update KYC like this

Go to the website of the bank from which you have taken Fastag. Then login with your mobile number. Then go to My Profile section and click on KYC. Fill the other details including address proof in it. In this way KYC will be updated. If you want to check the status of your Fastag, then apart from the bank’s website, you can check by visiting fastag.ihmcl.com.

These documents will be needed

To update KYC, vehicle registration certificate, ID proof, address proof, a passport size photo will have to be uploaded. Passport, Voter ID card, Aadhar card, driving license and PAN card can be used as ID and address proof.

Problems will increase at toll plaza from February 1

Due to people whose KYC of Fastag is not updated, problems will increase at toll plaza from February 1. Double toll will be collected from them. NHAI is fully alert to ensure that there is no dispute. Police force can also be deployed at toll to prevent disputes.

FASTag Wrong Deductions: FASTag is a technology that can make toll payment directly. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is used in FASTag. However, in recent times many people have faced many problems regarding toll tax.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is used in FASTag. However, in recent times many people have faced many problems regarding toll tax. Recently, Dayanand Pachauri, a native of Madhya Pradesh, has accused FASTag that his money was deducted from FASTag even after his car was parked 175 kilometers away. He complained about this to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. In such cases the vehicle owner is entitled to get back the amount deducted.

What is FASTag?

Authorized and operated by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), FASTag is an electronic system for paying highway tolls. It is a rechargeable card, which can be glued as a sticker on a vehicle’s windscreen. It employs RFID technology for making payments directly from the customer’s linked bank account without having to stop at the toll plaza.

This complaint can be made in two ways. They can lodge a complaint on NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) toll-free helpline number-1033. You can complain to the officials and offices of your area. According to the NHAI website, if the complaint is true then the wrongly deducted money is returned to the customer within 20-30 working days.

How To Get Refund

Car owners can also lodge a complaint on the helpline number of the fastag issuing bank. Many banks are linked to FASTag and users can connect with the helpline numbers of these banks. They can know the helpline number by clicking on the website of NPCI (National Payments Corporation Website of India).

The website is- www.npci.org.in/what-we-do/netc-fastag/netc-fastag-helpline-number. If Fastag is linked to Paytm then you can complain. You have to call the helpline number 1800-120-4210. You will have to provide some information and links through SMS.

The National Highway Authority of India keeps making rules from time to time so that more time is not wasted at the toll plaza and people do not face any problem. This is the reason why FASTag ( Fastag compulsory by NHAI ) has been made mandatory on all vehicles.

Along with this, crores of rupees came in the treasury of the government only because of this order that all vehicles must have FASTag. For this everyone had to buy a sticker and put this sticker on the front windscreen of the vehicle. Scanning through this sticker is easy and vehicles will not have to stand for toll.

For this, big promises were made and facilities were given. Well, there is a government, orders have to be obeyed. Whether you want to or not. So thousands of people emptied their pockets without wanting to and put FASTag on all vehicles as per the orders of the government. The government will have to give you money if you have to walk on the road.

Many people also had to say that the government should construct new highways. Along with this, new expressways should be built. Many people have been angry with the governments that why the existing highways were converted into toll roads. That is, the thing which was being used by paying road tax now had to pay toll tax and FASTag along with road tax. Is.

Till now it was fine but the inconvenience continued till now that one has to wait for half an hour at the toll plaza. The claims of the government are rejected here and the government is being exploited in the name of convenience. It is a different matter that the government is not unaware of the problems being faced at the toll plaza. On behalf of the government, it is clearly indicated to the toll plaza operators that people should not face any kind of problem. For this, from the officers of the toll plaza to the contractors, it has been directed that every vehicle should cross the toll plaza without any hassle.

NHAI’s order to control the line of vehicles at toll plazas

The National Highway Authority has made some rules to control the queue of vehicles on the toll plaza and to keep the toll plaza personnel agile. Do you know that the National Highways Authority has ordered not to allow a vehicle to wait for more than 10 seconds at any toll plaza while traveling on the highway. This order also applies during peak hours.

Yellow line rule at toll plaza

Along with this, a provision has also been given that no line of more than 100 meters should be installed under any circumstances. And if this happens, then the government has ordered that until the line is reduced to 100, then all the vehicles inside that line will be allowed to pass the toll without stopping.

The government has ordered that a yellow line should be made on the toll of every highway to mark the distance of 100 meters from the toll in this way. It is also a clear order that the toll plaza operator should immediately take action to finish the line when the line is set up. From February 2021, 100 percent cashless transactions have been implemented on tolls. Because FASTag is being used at 96 percent toll plazas.

When the order was given, in the order of the National Highways Authority of May 26, 2021, it has also been said that the toll plaza will have to take care that no vehicle should hit any toll for more than 10 seconds. Some people say that in case of not doing so, the driver can take the vehicle even without paying toll.

At the same time, there is a possibility of relaxation in this rule to maintain distance during the Corona period. But, now Corona is gone. And now orders with normal conditions have been implemented everywhere. Read detailed order here

Several calls were made to the National Highway Authority for information on the current situation. No one was ready to pick up both the phone numbers given on the site. Due to not picking up the phone, it was not possible to present his side.

The post Toll plaza timing rule for vehicles : How many times you can cross the toll at the toll plaza without paying, know first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.
