EPFO has made many big changes to simplify the services related to Provident Fund. Now PF transfer has become easier with Form 13, UAN can be generated with face authentication and even without Aadhaar.

EPFO Update: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made several important changes to make PF related services easier, transparent and digital. These new rules will directly benefit crores of EPF members and employers. Whether it is transferring PF, generating a new UAN or filing an online claim, now all this has become faster and easier than ever. EPFO has also removed the requirement of Aadhaar in some cases and has also included new technology like face authentication. Let us know about these big changes related to EPF in detail.

Now it is easy to transfer PF

EPFO has revamped Form 13, making it easier to transfer PF account after changing jobs. The new form will clearly show the taxable and non-taxable part of PF interest, which will bring transparency in tax calculation and tracking. This change will help employees track their money and avoid tax-related errors.

Now UAN will be created without Aadhaar and Face ID

Now in certain cases, employers can generate UAN for employees even without Aadhaar number. Also, EPFO has introduced face authentication facility in UMANG app through which UAN can be generated and activated instantly. This technology makes the process of activating UAN completely digital and easy, which will provide convenience to new and old employees.

Adding bank account also became easy

There is no need to upload a photo of the check book or passbook while filling the EPF claim form if your bank account is already linked to UAN and verified by NPCI. Also, the requirement of employer’s approval for linking a bank account has also been removed. This will process the claim quickly and the chances of the form being rejected will also be reduced.

PF Transfer: Whenever most of us leave one job and join another company, we often forget to transfer our PF (Provident Fund) account or postpone it. But this small negligence can become the reason for many problems in the future. Whether it is the problem of interest being stopped or problems in claiming income tax and funds after retirement.

Let us know what problems you may face if you have not transferred PF after changing jobs and what is the right solution for it.

There may be loss on EPF interest

According to EPFO rules, if a PF account remains inactive for three years, that is, no contribution is made to it, then interest on it stops. In such a situation, the money lying in the PF account of the old employer can gradually harm your savings.

Financial advisor Sanjay Chaudhary says, “Not transferring PF on changing jobs can stop the compound interest on your money. This can reduce the retirement corpus. In such a situation, it is better to transfer the PF account immediately after changing jobs.”

Tax hassles and the blow of TDS

If an employee’s old PF account is closed before 5 years and he has not transferred it, then tax can be deducted on it while withdrawing. TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) can be levied on withdrawal of PF for less than 5 years of service and more than ₹ 50,000.

If PF has been transferred, then your service is counted from the date of changing the job. But since the PF accounts are separate, this is considered a service break. This affects the tax exemption.

Duplicate entries and data mismatch in UAN

In the new system of EPFO, every employee is given a Universal Account Number (UAN). But if you do not transfer the new PF and do not provide the information of the old account, then the new company can generate a new UAN. In such a situation, you may have two UANs. This may cause problems in processes like data matching, KYC update and fund claim.

HR technology expert Meenakshi Rathi says, “Duplicate UAN can slow down your retirement process in future. The right way is to use the old UAN in the new job and transfer the PF immediately.”

Delay or rejection in final PF claim

If you do not transfer your PF from your previous jobs, EPFO will not be able to sum up your total service period. This can lead to your claim getting rejected or taking a long time when you try to withdraw funds after retirement or resignation.

For example, a person changed jobs 3 times in 12 years but did not transfer the first two PF accounts. Now at the time of retirement, his entire fund will not be visible in the EPFO records. He may have to go through the process of approval of the old employer, UAN linking and Form 13.

There may be a problem in the Pension Scheme (EPS) as well

A part of the employer’s contribution to EPF also goes to EPS (Employees’ Pension Scheme). To get pension benefits under EPS, the total service must be more than 10 years. If PF is not transferred, your service period will be broken and you may also become ineligible for EPS benefits.

EPS account balance is not visible online, hence it is important to maintain its record and also link EPS through PF transfer.

Easy process of PF transfer

Now the process of PF transfer has become completely online. You can fill Form 13 by logging in from your UAN portal. For this, you should have the details of both the employers and the bank and KYC updated. EPFO usually transfers PF within 10–20 working days. Let us know its step by step process.

Log on to the official site of EPFO .

Select Online Services > One Member – One EPF Account (Transfer Request).

Select old company and submit Form 13.

The transfer will take place after approval from your employer.

EPFO Update: EPFO has made 7 major changes for PF account holders. This has made UAN activation, PF transfer, bank linking and claim process easier and digital than ever before. Let’s know the complete details.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has recently made many important changes in its functioning. Its aim is to make the process faster, simpler and digital for Provident Fund (PF) account holders. These changes are not only technologically advanced, but are also directly benefiting millions of employees. Let us know the 7 major changes of EPFO which were implemented in recent months.

1. Form 13 process for PF transfer simplified

EPFO has simplified the process of Form 13 from January 2025. Now in most cases, employer approval is not required. This will make PF transfer faster. Automatic merger of old and new PF accounts has also become possible. Also, clarity on the taxable and non-taxable part of the PF amount will also make the calculation of TDS accurate.

2. UAN activation through Aadhaar face authentication

EPFO has introduced the facility to generate and activate UAN through UMANG app by implementing Aadhaar based face authentication technology. This is especially beneficial for those 70% members who have not been able to activate UAN till now.

3. Employer approval requirement for bank account linking is abolished

Now PF account holders can link their bank account to UAN directly through NPCI/Bank. Earlier this process required the approval of the employer, which took an average of 16 days. This hurdle has now been removed.

4. No need to upload check leaf or passbook

Now, members need not upload the image of cheque leaf or bank passbook while filing online claim, provided their bank account is verified through NPCI.

5. PF advance will be available for home repair through self-declaration

Under Para 68B(7) of the EPF Scheme 1952, now members can take PF advance for repairs only on the basis of self-declaration after 5 years of construction of the house. However, this facility will be available only if it is not linked to the housing advance taken earlier.

6. Facility of UAN generation in bulk without linking Aadhaar

EPFO has implemented a new system through which employers can generate UAN even for those employees whose Aadhaar is not linked. This facility has been provided especially in those cases where old PF contributions are now being merged into EPFO.

7. One-time payment of dues is now possible through demand draft also

EPFO has allowed one-time payment of old dues through demand draft in cases where payment through electronic challan is not possible. This facility will be given only under special circumstances on the satisfaction of the regional officer.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has simplified the process of Form 13 used for PF account transfer. With this change, now the PF transfer claim will be processed faster than before and employees will save time.

This change is beneficial for all those employees who change jobs or have more than one PF account. Let’s understand the new changes:

What changed in Form 13?

1. Single-step transfer process: Earlier there was a 3-level processing for PF transfer, which has now been removed. Now only after the claim is approved at the source office (from where the PF account is being transferred), the money will be directly added to the new account. There will be no need for re-processing at another office.

2. Old PF balance and pension service period will be automatically added: Once the approval is received from the source office, the employee’s PF balance and pension service period will be automatically added to the new account.

3. Time will be saved, service will be faster: As per the EPFO directive dated April 25, the new process will help in processing transfer claims faster and make office work easier.

Special features of the new Form 13

As soon as you open Form 13, you will see details of employee’s KYC (old and new office), PF balance, contribution, interest calculation, and taxable/non-taxable amount together. If the PF account is being transferred to a new organization, it will be easy to match the old and new KYC information. Tax related details will be entered separately in this, which will increase transparency. A unique ID will be generated for every transaction, which will reduce the risk of fraud.

How will the new process work?

Step 1: The employee will fill Form 13 and submit it to the old office (where his PF account was earlier).

Step 2: The claim will be approved after all the verifications are done at the old office.

Step 3: The approved amount and the taxable portion will be automatically added to the new account.
