The IT 2.0 application has been implemented in several post offices in Ambala district. These include areas like Ambala Cantonment, Barara, Bihta, Mullana, Kesari, Saha, Dhin, Adhoya and Majri. This initiative is being taken to connect postal services across the country into a unified digital infrastructure, so that citizens can get quick and easy services.

What is IT 2.0 application?

IT 2.0 is a digital platform designed to modernize and streamline the operations of the postal department. This application integrates core postal services, financial services and logistics, so that the customer can get all the facilities on a single platform.

Through this system, real time tracking of postal services, better integration of banking services and distribution system, and cyber security have also been strengthened. This will not only provide transparency to the customers, but will also increase the efficiency of the postal department manifold.

Strengthening the Digital India Mission

The IT 2.0 application is a big step towards advancing the Digital India Mission. This will enable people living in rural and remote areas to get accessible and transparent banking and postal services. Ambala division’s postal department officer Vijay Kumar told Local 18 that IT 2.0 application is a revolutionary change in postal services. This will provide the general public with better tracking facility, integrated experience of banking and logistics services.
He also said that this system will not only equip the employees with modern technology but will also provide digitally robust postal and financial services to the citizens across the country.

If you deposit Rs 1 lakh in a 2-year TD scheme in the post office, you will get a total of Rs 1,14,663 on maturity. This includes the Rs 1,00,000 invested and a fixed interest of Rs 14,663. The Union Minister said at the ‘India Economic Enclave-2024’ that India Post has around 6,40,000 sales points across the country and no one in the world can match its scale.

He said, “In the next three-four years, we will become a people-centric service. We have signed an agreement with the Ministry of External Affairs today, under which we will set up a network of 600 more passport service centres. It is expected that one crore citizens will be served every year through our network.”

Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK), started in the year 2017, has provided passport related services to more than 1.52 crore citizens.

Over the years, the network of POPSK has expanded significantly and it operates 442 centres across the country.

According to an official note, 600 additional POPSKs will be set up across the country by 2028-29.

“We will also expand postal, life insurance and RPLI (rural postal life insurance). And of course, the mainstay will be parcels,” Scindia said. He said that the Postal Department is transforming itself into a logistics company.

This year the government has decided that digital certificates will be issued by going to the homes of the elderly. For this, the services of the postal department will be taken.

Elderly pensioners have to submit their life certificate every year. For their convenience, the government has provided the facility of submitting Digital Life Certificate (DLC). But for this also one has to go to a public facility center or cyber cafe. Now the Postal Department has come forward to help pensioners in submitting digital certificates from home. The Postal Department will provide this service to the elderly at their homes. At present, there are about 68 lakh pensioners in the country only from the Central Government. If the number of pensioners of state governments is added to this, then this figure will increase significantly.

The campaign will run across the country

This information has been received from an official statement issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) of the Central Government on Friday. This move is important because the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DOPPW) has decided to organize DLC Campaign 3.0 in all district headquarters and major cities across the country from November 1-30, 2024. It is noteworthy that a preparatory meeting for DLC Campaign 3.0 in all district post offices was held on September 12, 2024 by V Srinivas, Secretary (DOPPW) in which Sanjay Sharan Director General Postal Services, Rajul Bhatt Deputy Director General Posts and R. Vishwaswaran Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) were also present.

DLC campaign will run in post offices

The statement issued by the Personnel Ministry said that it was agreed that the District Post Offices will conduct DLC Campaign 3.0 in District Post Offices in coordination with Pensioners Welfare Associations, Pension Disbursing Banks and Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDIA). The statement said, “Pensioners can submit Jeevan Pramaan Patra (DLC) in District Post Offices using face authentication from Android smart phones.

Service will be available at home

“The Department of Posts will provide services to the elderly at their doorsteps/(and) inform the pensioners to submit DLC as required,” the statement said. The DLC 3.0 campaign will be widely publicised by spreading awareness about the scheme through banners, social media, SMS and short videos.

Who will provide technical support?

The central government statement said that UIDAI and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will provide technical support during the camps. According to the statement, “It is envisaged that the collaboration will broaden and deepen the government’s efforts for digital empowerment of pensioners and contribute significantly to making their lives easier.”

Last year the campaign was run in 100 cities

In the year 2023, DLC Abhiyan 2.0 was organized in 100 cities of the country. In this, 1.45 crore pensioners had deposited their DLCs. This year this campaign has been extended to all the district headquarters and big cities of the country. Therefore, it is believed that this time more DLCs will be deposited through the campaign than last year.
