Under this government scheme, Indian citizens above 70 years of age from any income group will be able to get free treatment. According to the news published in the Times of India, PM Modi can give the green signal to this process on Tuesday.

What was the announcement of giving health coverage to senior citizens

Apart from this, other major health projects including UWIN App, a platform prepared by the government, can be launched to speed up the vaccination program of all pregnant women and children under the Universal Immunization Program (UIP). The government had announced to provide health coverage to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above irrespective of income under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).

Pilot projects were run in many parts of the country

Sources said that pilot projects were run in many parts of the country to implement the scheme and assess the preparations. Officials said that all senior citizens aged 70 years and above will get coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh annually on the basis of family. Under the scheme, no income criteria has been kept for those aged 70 years or above.

The elderly will be given a separate cover of Rs 5 lakh.

It is worth noting that in the month of April this year, Prime Minister Modi had announced this. Cards will be issued to new policy holders by the government. Now the name of this scheme has been changed to Pradhan Mantri Jan-Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). Under this scheme, the central government provides health insurance up to Rs 5 lakh to eligible families. Ayushman Golden Card is issued to the family. By showing this card, free treatment can be provided in the listed hospitals. Ayushman Golden Card is valid in more than 13,000 government and private hospitals across the country. Ayushman Golden Card can be made both online and offline.

About 1500 diseases can be treated with Ayushman Golden Card, including serious diseases like cancer and heart disease. All chronic and new diseases are covered under this scheme. This scheme is paperless and cashless.

Ayushman PVC cards (made from polyvinyl chloride material which can be easily carried) are to be distributed to over 50 lakh beneficiaries under PMJAY-MA scheme in Gujarat. The Centre’s PMJAY scheme to provide health facilities to the economically weaker sections was integrated with Gujarat’s ‘Mukhyamantri Amrutam’ (MA) and ‘Mukhyamantri Amrutam Vatsalya’ (MAV) health schemes in 2019. The Gujarat government said that after the integration of the two schemes, PMJAY-MA cards were issued to 1.58 crore beneficiaries in Gujarat. Ayushman Cards Change! Ayushman card is going to have some important changes. The Ministry of Health has given information in this regard. The Ayushman cards will be linked to the flagship health scheme of the Center as well as the logo of the state and the names of state-specific health schemes. That is, as a co-brand.

Under this change, except Delhi, West Bengal and Odisha, all other states and union territories have given consent for co-branding of cards. After its implementation, its name will be changed to ‘Ayushman Card’. The National Health Authority (NHA) is working to streamline the beneficiary cards issued under the scheme. At the same time, it has been decided to bring more ‘integrity and uniformity’ in it.

Ministry has said in a statement that this card will be bilingual, in English and local language. In this new card, both Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and state-specific people will have ‘equal space allotted’. In this, along with ABPM-JAY, the name of the state scheme will also be there.

Why the change is happening

The ministry has said that behind this change, our aim is to bring more uniformity in this card by working with the states. The statement said that the NHA is in constant touch with the states to issue co-branded cards. Barring a few, most states have adopted co-branding guidelines.

So far 14.12 crore Ayushman cards have been issued under this scheme. Under this scheme, about 18.81 crore persons have been verified till August 17.
Beneficiaries will get full financial assistance from the Center for issuance of co-branded cards. The Health Ministry said that the authority will provide full financial assistance under the central scheme as well as the state scheme.
Under Ayushman, health coverage up to Rs 5 lakh is provided annually to the beneficiary family. It provides benefits of 1,949 treatment procedures.
