Bank Holidays in September 2024

This month banks will remain closed for a total of 15 days according to the state. There will be holidays in the states on the occasion of Srimanta Shankardev, Ganesh Chaturthi, First Onam, Milad-un-Nabi, Indrajatra, Sri Narayana Guru Samadhi Day, Maharaja Hari Singh Ji’s birthday.

List of bank holidays in September

September 14 (Second Saturday) : Karma Puja / First Onam – Banks across the country will remain closed.

September 16 (Monday) : Id-e-Milad – Banks will be closed in Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand.

September 17 (Tuesday) : Indrajatra/Id-e-Milad – Banks will remain closed in Sikkim, Chhattisgarh.

September 18 (Wednesday): Banks will remain closed in Pang-Lhabsol – Sikkim.

September 20 (Friday): Banks will remain closed in Jammu and Srinagar – the day after Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi.

September 21 (Saturday): Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day – Banks will remain closed in Kerala.

September 23 (Monday) : Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji – Banks will remain closed in Jammu and Srinagar.

Due to many local holidays in September, banks will remain closed as per the states. Therefore, customers are advised to check the holidays with their local bank branch before visiting the bank.

September 4 (Wednesday): Tribhuvan Tithi (tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva); banks will remain closed in Assam.

September 7 (Saturday): Ganesh Chaturthi; banks will be closed in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Goa.

September 8 (Sunday): Banks will remain closed in all states.

September 14 (Saturday): Karma Puja/First Onam; Banks will remain closed in Kerala and Jharkhand. As this is the second Saturday, banks will remain closed in all states as well.

September 15 (Sunday): Banks will remain closed in all states.

Higher charges on replacing credit card

ICICI Bank has said that it has changed the charges for many credit card services. These changes are going to be implemented from July 1, 2024. Some of these changes are going to benefit the customers, as the bank has abolished many charges. On the other hand, charges for some services have also been increased. The bank has increased the credit card replacement charge from Rs 100 to Rs 200.

Here are some of the charges that ICICI Bank has announced to abolish for its credit card users from July 1:

1: Rs 100 fee for cheque or cash pick-up
2: Rs 100 fee for asking for charge slip
3: Minimum Rs 300 fee for Dial a Draft service
4: Outstation cheque processing fee (minimum Rs 100 or 1 per cent of cheque value)
5: Rs 100 charge for duplicate statement older than 3 months

Changes will be implemented from next month

According to the information given by ICICI Bank, now these 5 types of charges will not be levied on its credit card customers. The bank has discontinued the charges for these 5 services. These changes are coming into effect from the first date of next month i.e. 1 July 2024.

Relief on late payment penalty too

Another important change for ICICI Bank’s credit card customers is regarding the penalty levied on late payment. The bank says that in case of late payment, penalty will no longer be levied on customers based on the total outstanding amount. For this, the outstanding amount will be calculated by deducting the payment received during that period from the total outstanding of the respective billing period.

After the revision of interest rates, senior citizens will now be able to get a maximum interest rate of up to 7.55% on fixed deposits with Bank of Baroda. ]]> Special FDs: After increasing the repo rate by the Reserve Bank of India, different public and private sector banks are increasing the home loan rates. Apart from this, banks are also increasing the interest rate on fixed deposits.

But there are some banks too, which had started Special FDs for the customers, which are giving interest rate not by month or year but by day. In the special FDs of these banks, the customers (regular customers and senior citizens) are going to get more interest i.e. more benefits as compared to regular FDs. But the opportunity to invest in these special FDs is only till March. After March 31, customers will not be able to invest in these FDs.

SBI has launched a special FD for 400 days called Amrit Kalash. On this FD, senior citizens are getting 7.60 per cent interest and regular customers are getting up to 7.10 per cent interest. According to SBI’s website, one can invest in this FD only till March 31, 2023.

The bank started Senior Citizen Care FD on 18 March 2020. Customers can invest here till 31 March 2023. This FD is only for senior citizens. On this, customers are getting interest of up to 7.75 percent.

The bank has launched a special FD named Ind Shakti 555 Days. The bank launched it on 19 December 2022. In this FD, regular customers will get 7 percent interest and senior citizens will get up to 7.50 percent interest. You can invest in this special FD only till March 31, 2023.

IDBI Bank Special FD

The bank has launched a special fixed deposit named IDBI Naman Senior Citizen Deposit. According to the bank’s website, senior citizens are getting 75 basis points more interest than the current interest rates. You can invest in this scheme till March 31, 2023.

Apart from this, the rate of interest available to senior citizens ranges from 7.50 per cent to 8.25 per cent. On the other hand, super senior citizens are getting the benefit of interest ranging from 7.50 per cent to 8.60 per cent.

HDFC Bank: Interest on 5 year FD

HDFC Bank is offering 7 percent interest to regular customers on five-year fixed deposits (FD). For senior citizens, these rates are 7.50 percent. These interest rates are applicable from January 24, 2023 on deposits of less than Rs 2 crore.

ICICI Bank: Interest on 5 year FD

ICICI Bank is offering 7 percent interest to regular customers on five-year fixed deposits (FD). For senior citizens, these rates are 7.50 percent. These interest rates are applicable from December 16, 2022 on deposits of less than Rs 2 crore.

Tax exemption will be available on FD of 5 years

If you make FD of 5 years in any bank, then you get the benefit of tax exemption in section 80C. However, the interest earned on FD is taxable. In this, tax can be saved on investment up to a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh in a financial year. It has a lock in period of 5 years. This period can extend up to 10 years.

Additional interest rate benefit of 50 bps is being given to senior citizens on deposits ranging from 7 days to 5 years.
