The department has issued an alert of moderate to heavy rain. According to the Meteorological Department, the rain will continue in the eastern and northeastern states for the next five days. According to a report by Skymet, a low pressure area has formed in the west-central Bay of Bengal and the adjoining south-west part. It is moving northwards. Due to this, there may be heavy rain in northeastern India for the next 2 to 3 days.

Continuous rain in West Bengal till April 17

Pre-monsoon rains will continue in many parts of West Bengal. According to Skymet Weather, pre-monsoon activities will continue to be seen in Kolkata from April 12 to April 17. During this period, there will be moderate to heavy rains with thunder and lightning in Kolkata and surrounding areas. There may be sudden clouds in the evening, strong winds may blow.

Heavy threat of thunderstorms

According to Skymet Weather report, this is the season of Kal-Baishakhi or Nor-Wester storms in Bengal. From 12th to 7th April, there is a danger of strong storm, lightning and heavy rain in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Midnapore, Diamond Harbor, Digha, Kharagpur, Burdwan, Bankura and Jhargram districts. Trees, electric wires and buildings can be damaged due to the storm.

Weather system across the country

According to a report of the Indian Meteorological Department, a western disturbance is located over the Kashmir valley. A cyclonic circulation is formed over North East Madhya Pradesh. One trough has gone towards West Bengal, while the other trough is formed towards Telangana. A trough line is formed from Assam to the Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic circulation is formed over North East Assam. The Meteorological Department estimates that a new western disturbance is going to become active from April 16. Its effect may once again bring a change in the weather.

Northeast India heavy rain alert

The weather in Northeast India is continuously deteriorating. Pre-monsoon weather has been active in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram since April 10. According to Skymet Weather’s report, moderate to heavy rains will continue throughout this week. Apart from this, stormy winds can blow along with thunder and lightning. Due to heavy rains, waterlogging may occur in low-lying areas.

Heavy rain in South India

Pre-monsoon rains are happening in South India. Kerala has seen the maximum impact of rain. Between March 1 and April 10, 92 percent more rain has been recorded in southern peninsular India. Except coastal Andhra Pradesh, most subdivisions of South India have received heavy rains. 96 percent more rain has been recorded in Kerala. Here, 44.3 mm of rain has been recorded as against the normal 23.1 mm. Heavy rains are expected in Kerala this entire week.
