Terminal-2 (T2) of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) has been temporarily closed on Monday for maintenance work. Due to this, IndiGo and Akasa Air have shifted their flights to T-1, which has been recently developed. High level upgradation work is going to be done at IGI, due to which Terminal-2 has been temporarily closed.

T-2 temporarily closed

An official said on Tuesday that flight operations at the airport are running normally. Now only Terminal-1 and Terminal-3 are operational at this major airport of the national capital. One of the four runways of this airport has also been closed for maintenance. According to media reports, high-level upgradation work is going to be done at IGI. Due to this, Terminal 2 (T-2) is likely to remain temporarily closed for 4-5 months from April.

What did the airlines say

Only Indigo and Akasa Air flights were operating from T-2. This terminal was built about 40 years ago. Now the flights of these two airlines are operating completely from T-1.

IndiGo said on Monday that it has already taken necessary steps to inform passengers about the terminal change on time. At the same time, Akasa Air also issued a statement saying that its teams are working with full readiness for the smooth transfer of operations.

T-1 and T-3 will handle the crowd

According to Delhi International Airport Limited ( DIAL ), the expanded Terminal-1 is capable of handling 40 million passengers annually, while Terminal-3 has a capacity of 45 million. T-2 has a capacity to handle 15 million passengers annually.

Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmuang Vualnam on Monday expressed confidence that T1 and T3 will together handle the traffic and there is no possibility of any congestion due to the closure of Terminal 2.

The IGI airport handles around 1,300 flights daily.

According to the information, on October 26, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma will inaugurate Terminal-1 of Jaipur Airport which will be operational only for international flights from the 27th. Currently, Terminal-2 is catering to both domestic and international flights. But now the system will change and from the 27th, Terminal-2 will be used only for passengers of domestic flights.

Terminal-1 is being opened after many years with a new heritage look. Preparations are in full swing for this terminal which has a capacity of 15 lakh passengers annually. Soon dummy check-runs will also be started at Terminal-1. Around 100 security personnel will be deployed for the security of Terminal-1 which includes CISF and airport security personnel. Around 10 immigration counters have been set up in its departure area, while 14 counters have been set up in the arrival area.

All preparations completed, trial run was also successful

All preparations have been completed for Terminal 1 in Jaipur. Dummy trial has also been done here. Actually, people have got great convenience due to increased air connectivity in Rajasthan. Convenience has increased for Delhi, Mumbai etc. including Ayodhya in domestic flights, while now tourists will also come due to direct connectivity to international Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur. Airport personnel said that there has been an impressive increase in passenger traffic.

Apart from duty-free outlets, F&B outlets will also be available.

There will be 10 check-in counters in Terminal 1 building. Apart from duty-free outlets, F&B outlets will also start functioning from Terminal-1. Other facilities include medical room, 24-hour ambulance facility and lounges. The first flight to land at Terminal-1 of Jaipur Airport on October 27 will be Etihad Airways from Abu Dhabi, which will land at 2.10 am. All the passengers arriving in it will be given a grand welcome.
