A major update has come in the weather forecast of Uttarakhand. A yellow alert has been issued for rain, thunderstorm, hailstorm and lightning in five districts of Uttarakhand from May 9. Yellow alert will remain in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh till May 11. Whereas, light to moderate rain will occur in other districts of Uttarakhand. The alert is in effect for the next two days in Uttarakhand.

Pilgrims have been advised to travel only after knowing the weather conditions. Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr. Bikram Singh said that most areas of Uttarakhand received light rain and strong winds on Thursday.

It was told that the effect of Western Disturbance will be seen in many districts of Uttarakhand. Yellow alert will remain in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh till May 11. There is an alert of lightning, hailstorm, heavy rain and winds blowing at the speed of 50 km per hour here.

The Meteorological Department said in its update that heavy rain was recorded in Kullu district and Lahaul valley since Friday morning. Snow has fallen on the high peaks of Lahaul along with Rohtang. This has caused a drop in temperature. Due to heavy rain, the roads and paths of Kullu district headquarters were flooded with water within a short time. The rain has also exposed the arrangements of the Public Works Department and the Municipal Council. Water is flowing on the main road (MDR) of the district from Gandhinagar to Ramshila.

The footpaths of all the 11 wards of the Municipal Council also turned into ponds, due to which the pedestrians had to face problems in commuting. The patients and their attendants are facing the most trouble in reaching the Regional Hospital Kullu. The footpath leading to the hospital gate from Lalchand Prathi Kala Kendra is also waterlogged. Water has accumulated at many places on the hospital road from Dhalpur to College Chowk. In the state capital Shimla also, the rain started at around 2:45 in the afternoon.

What was affected

Till Friday morning, traffic remained disrupted on 40 roads and three bridges in the state while 32 electricity transformers were also affected. The Mandi-Kullu main road has been closed due to landslides near 6, 7 and 9 miles between Mandi-Pandoh. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of mild risk of flood in some catchment areas and neighbourhoods of Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Mandi and Bilaspur districts of Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours.

During this monsoon season, 13 percent more rain than normal has been recorded in September so far. Except Una, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu and Kinnaur districts, all other districts recorded more than normal rain. Bilaspur district received 91 percent more rain than normal, Chamba eight, Hamirpur 51, Kangra five, Mandi 94, Shimla 19, Sirmaur 136 and Solan received 36 percent more rain. On the other hand, Una received 57 percent less rain than normal, Lahaul-Spiti 77 percent and Kinnaur received three percent less rain.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains in entire Uttarakhand from August 1 to 3. Along with this, in some parts of Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and USnagar, one or two rounds of heavy rain has been warned. On Sunday, the forecast was issued by the Meteorological Department till 03 August.

In this, except for Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Almora and Haridwar, there is a forecast of heavy rain in other districts on Monday. Yellow alert has been issued for this. Whereas between August 1 and 3, heavy rains are expected in all the districts of the state. During this, there may be heavy rains in some parts of these districts.

At the same time, due to rain after sunshine on Sunday, the weather remained hot with humidity. The maximum temperature in Dehradun was three degrees above normal at 33.2 degrees, while in Pantnagar it was 33.5 degrees. On the other hand, 25.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in New Tehri and 22 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar.

The IMD has further warned that Biparjoy is likely to cause heavy rains and strong winds in the coastal areas of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. IMD has also issued Yellow Alert for many districts of Kerala.

Monsoon will advance in other parts of Kerala

The IMD said “The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy lay centered about 700 km WNW of Goa, 620 km WSW of Mumbai, 600 km SSW of Porbandar and 910 km S of Karachi.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that the monsoon is likely to advance into the remaining parts of Kerala within the next two days. Earlier, it was feared that Cyclone Biparjoy, after hitting the Kerala coast on June 8, could delay the progress of the monsoon.

Chance of heavy rain in Gujarat

Cyclone Biparjoy is also affecting Gujarat and IMD has predicted heavy rains in the state today. Tithal beach in Valsad district witnessed high waves, possibly due to the impact of cyclone Biparjoy, news agency ANI reported. The local authorities have closed Tithal Beach for tourists as a precautionary measure.
