There is going to be a major change in the Tatkal train ticket booking system from next month i.e. July 2025. After July 1, passengers will not be able to book Tatkal tickets from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website or mobile app, whose Aadhaar card is not linked to the IRCTC account.
Railways has made Aadhaar authentication and OTP based verification mandatory. From July 15, an OTP linked to Aadhaar will have to be entered for every Tatkal booking so that the identity of the user can be ensured while booking. Linking Aadhaar with IRCTC account is not a difficult task. You can easily do this work sitting at home.
According to the Railway Ministry, changes have been made in the Tatkal ticket booking rules to bring transparency in the booking process, prevent black marketing of tickets by fake agents and provide tickets to needy passengers in time in case of emergency. Tatkal tickets can be booked only through computerized PRS counters of Indian Railways or authorized agents.
This is how to link Aadhaar.
So, if you have not yet linked your Aadhaar with IRCTC account, do so immediately by following the easy steps given below.
- Visit the official website of IRCTC www.irctc.co.in .
- Log in with your username and password.
- Go to the ‘My Profile’ selection section.
- Now click on the ‘My Account’ or ‘My Profile’ option.
- Click on the ‘Aadhaar KYC’ option.
- The ‘Aadhaar KYC’ option will appear in the profile, click on it.
- Enter your Aadhaar number.
- Now enter the Aadhaar number and click on ‘Send OTP’.
- An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar registered mobile number.
- Enter the OTP in the space provided and confirm. After verification, your IRCTC account will be linked to Aadhaar.
