UGC sets new guidelines! Big change in the recruitment process for the post of Assistant Professor

A major decision has been taken by the University Grants Commission. Under this decision, UGC has fixed the minimum criteria for becoming an assistant professor in colleges. This information has been given by the UGC itself.

UGC has decided this minimum qualification

According to the update issued by UGC, now it will be mandatory to pass NET or SET or SLET as the minimum qualification to become an Assistant Professor in all higher education institutions. Candidates who pass these exams will be directly given jobs as professors in colleges.

The rules will be applicable from July 1.

It has also been clarified by the UGC that from July 1, 2023, these rules will be implemented in all central universities, state universities, deemed universities and private universities of the country.

What was the process of becoming an assistant professor earlier

According to UGC, any candidate of the previously issued rules to become an assistant professor in universities and degree colleges should have PG and UGC NET or UGC-CSIR NET or SET with minimum 55 percent marks in the concerned subject. Or had to pass the slate exam. Apart from this, it was also necessary to do PhD in the concerned subject.

, while after implementing the new rule related to Assistant Professor, UGC President M. Jagadish Kumar tweeted that from July 1, PhD will be optional to become Assistant Professor in colleges. Whereas, NET or SET or SLET will now be the minimum mandatory qualification.
