0

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new update in the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Rules, streamlining the process for Non-Resident Indians.

Under the changes outlined in a circular dated January 16, 2024, NRIs will now be required to use a specific form while enrolling for Aadhaar. Come, let us know about the new rules.

Changes in application eligibility for NRIs

NRIs, both minors and adults, holding a valid Indian passport are eligible to apply for Aadhaar at any Aadhaar centre.

For NRI applicants, a valid Indian passport is the only accepted proof of identity (POI). Additionally, birth certificate has been made mandatory for residents and NRIs born on or after October 1, 2023.

Must have email address

All NRIs must provide a valid email address during Aadhaar enrolment. It is important to note that SMS/text messages will not be transmitted to non-Indian mobile numbers provided by NRIs.

 Updated Form for Aadhaar Enrolment/Update

The form has been divided according to different age groups. Come, let us know about all these-

  • Form 1: To be used by residents aged 18 years and above and NRIs (with proof of address in India) to enroll or update Aadhaar details.
  • Form 2: This is specially designed for NRIs who provide proof of address outside India during enrollment or updation.
  • Form 3: For enrollment of children 5 years and above but below 18 years of age (resident or NRI with Indian address).
  • Form 4: For NRI children with addresses outside India.
  • Form 5: For resident or NRI children below 5 years of age (with Indian address) for Aadhaar enrollment or updation.
  • Form 6: Designed for NRI children below 5 years of age (with address outside India).
