At present, rail transport is the cheapest mode of transport for long distances. Crores of people in the country prefer this mode of transport and lakhs of people use it daily.
During the season, people also use trains to go on holidays. Most people prefer trains for travelling and hence they book tickets in advance.
However, the price of your ticket is determined by the class of train you are travelling in and can be more or less. However, some money can be saved by availing discounts under concessions and quotas, and by availing coupons and discounts offered by ticket booking sites. Here we are going to tell you about those methods.
1. Book tickets in advance:
If your journey is pre-scheduled, you should book tickets in advance to avoid the hassle of seats getting full. Try to book tickets 120 days before the date of travel. This will help you avoid the rush of last minute bookings. There is uncertainty of getting a confirmed ticket if you book at the last minute. You should also avoid ‘Tatkal Booking’, for which you have to pay extra charges.
2. Split your booking:
If multiple people are travelling together, passengers can opt for split booking system to pay less amount. For long journeys, one can book a single ticket and split the journey to book multiple tickets. For example, if you want to travel from Raipur to Patna.
You can split your journey or ticket into two legs. For example, if you are booking your ticket from Raipur Junction to Patna Junction, book a ticket from Raipur to Tatanagar Junction and then board another train from Tatanagar Junction to Patna Junction. This trick comes in handy especially during the festive season, even if the journey is the same as that of a direct booking.
3. Keep an eye on cashback offers:
While booking your tickets, one should always keep an eye on cashback sites. Instead of spending a lot of money on last minute bookings, avail the service and save money through cashback offers. Many websites offer cashback and discounts on train ticket bookings. So, one should opt for the option and get some cashback and discounts on your booking.
4. Use IRCTC payment card:
IRCTC has launched platinum card for ticket booking in collaboration with SBI. Instead of using credit or debit card, you can use IRCTC SBI card to get discounts and rewards. It gives value back rewards for AC1, AC2 and AC3 coach bookings. These payment cards work great for tatkal bookings.
5. Travel in sleeper class:
Traveling in sleeper coach will help you save half your money as compared to booking a ticket in AC coach. If the weather is good and favorable then you can choose sleeper class instead of traveling in AC coach. This saves a lot of money and the mind can be refreshed by enjoying the wonderful view of nature.
6. Avail coupon codes:
Travel and tourism sites or apps offer coupons and discounts when you book tickets. Always keep an eye on the coupons being offered and don’t forget to avail them. Availing coupon codes will help you book tickets at a lower price.
7. Choose a medium speed train:
Choosing a train that takes less time to reach the destination may be more expensive than trains that stop at many stations. If you don’t need this, choose a train with an average speed to reach your destination. These trains stop at many stations, which take more time to reach. The ticket prices of such trains are easily affordable.
