Bharat bandh today: Are schools, colleges, banks closed on July 9? All you need to know

Bharat bandh today: A joint platform of 10 central trade unions across the country has announced a ‘Bharat Bandh’ today i.e. on 9 July 2025. More than 25 crore workers will participate in this strike. These will include workers from sectors like banks, postal, coal mining, insurance, electricity and construction.

Amarjit Kaur, a member of the All India Trade Union Congress, said that farmers and rural workers will also join this strike. The unions say that this strike is a big step against the policies of the government, which are snatching the rights of workers and farmers.

Which areas will be affected? Big things

  • Bank Employees Union has confirmed that employees of banking sector will also join this strike.
  • Though no official bank holiday has been declared, bank services may be disrupted. According to the Bengal Provincial Bank Employees Union, employees of the insurance sector may also join the strike.
  • Electricity services may also be affected due to 27 lakh workers of the power sector joining the strike.
  •  Railway services will continue to run, but some delays are expected due to this strike. But the strike will have an impact on public transport.
  • Schools and colleges will remain open as usual as no holiday has been declared.
  • The trade unions have demanded elimination of unemployment, increase in working days and wages in MNREGA and creation of more employment.
  • Unions say the government’s four new labour laws deprive workers of their rights, end collective bargaining and increase working hours.
  • The unions accused the government of favouring employers in the name of “ease of doing business”.
  • He says that the new labor laws protect employers from accountability, which is unfair to workers.
  • The platform of 10 central trade unions has appealed to the workers to make this strike a “grand success”. The unions say that this strike will force the government to accept their demands.
