Government Announces Maadhaar To Be Discontinued As New Aadhaar App Launches With Upgraded Security

⚠️ Transition Warning: Official App Shutdown

The Change: The older mAadhaar platform will completely stop working very soon.

The Fix: Users must download the newly launched official Aadhaar app immediately.

The Bonus: Free online document profile updates are now extended until June 14, 2027.

A big change is here today. And first the old app will end soon. So now this move changes things fast. After that a firm made a new app. Plus this tool adds top safety locks. Meanwhile teams online asked for quick updates. So they want you to switch now.

The new app looks very clean. And first it changes your daily updates. Plus old tools showed too much data. Then note that the new app stops this. So it hides your main facts now. Meanwhile this step blocks all bad eyes. So it saves your card automatically.

Advanced QR Code Verification Replaces Old Document Scans

Local desk checks are getting an upgrade. And first a safe QR code acts fast. Next this tool helps you at hotels. Then it speeds up work at banks. Meanwhile users only share the tiny facts. So you never show your full card. Plus this step keeps you safe online.

The system backend has a fresh core. And first old tools used text codes. Next the new setup adds layers now. Then users will face quick face scans. Meanwhile individuals gain total power over prints. Plus you can lock the scan panel. So this step cuts risk on shared phones.

Step-by-Step Registration Guide for the Fresh Identity Portal

Setting up the tool takes a moment. And first users must clear old files. Next pick your main language line now. Then enter your linked phone code. So the firm can send a token. After that type the numbers in fast.

Completing the Multi-Layer Security Verification Steps

Some profiles need a quick face scan. Plus create your own new secure PIN. Then turn on your touch lock path. So this path checks your identity well. Meanwhile it stops basic hacks from entry. So it protects your profile all day.

This app change brings more good news. And first the team extended the deal. Next you can fix your address lines. Meanwhile this stay is open until 2027. So you have lots of time. Plus this update adds a full year.

Over 138 crore Aadhaar holders get relief as myAadhaar portal keeps zero-fee facility running; old mAadhaar app set to retire, new app with face authentication and QR sharing launched

🚨 Key Highlights

Free Aadhaar document update extended till June 14, 2027

Only available on myAadhaar portal

mAadhaar app retiring soon

New Aadhaar app: QR sharing, face authentication, offline verification

Biometric updates still need visit to enrolment centre

The deadline’s been pushed. Again.

UIDAI — the authority running India’s Aadhaar system — has given holders one more year to update their proof of identity and address documents for free. As a result, the facility, which was supposed to end June 14, 2026, will now stay open till June 14, 2027. No charges. Just the myAadhaar portal.

“It has been decided to extend the facility for one more year, i.e., from June 15, 2026, to June 14, 2027. Accordingly, the facility for document update shall continue to be free of cost till June 14, 2027,” UIDAI said in its official memorandum.

That’s 138 crore Aadhaar holders who can breathe easier. However, there’s a catch — the old mAadhaar app? It’s on its way out.

Why UIDAI Extended the Deadline

The authority’s been nudging people for a while now. In fact, those who enrolled years back and haven’t refreshed their documents since are the primary targets. After all, the database needs current proof of identity (PoI) and proof of address (PoA) to stay accurate.

Originally, the free update window was supposed to shut next month. But then UIDAI kept it running — a full 12-month extension that lets holders upload fresh documents without paying the usual ₹50 fee.

Here’s the thing though: this free ride is portal-only. In contrast, if you walk into an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre for the same update, you’ll still pay.

mAadhaar App Retiring: What Users Must Do Now

UIDAI dropped another bombshell this week. Specifically, the mAadhaar app — the one millions have on their phones — is retiring soon.

“The #mAadhaar App is retiring soon. Now experience a smarter, faster, and more secure digital journey with the new AadhaarApp,” UIDAI posted on its official X handle.

The new Aadhaar app comes with features the old one never had. For example:

Secure QR code-based Aadhaar sharing — simply flash your QR, and you’re done

Face authentication — therefore, no more fumbling with OTPs

Offline verification — moreover, it works without constant internet

Improved privacy controls — in other words, you choose what to share

Easier service access — consequently, updates, downloads, and verification take fewer taps

Furthermore, UIDAI has already begun the phase-out process, urging users to migrate their data before the old app goes dark.

💰 What You Can Update Online (Free)

Proof of Identity document

Proof of Address document

Name (within limits)

Date of birth (within limits)

Gender (within limits)

Mobile number (with OTP)

What Still Needs a Centre Visit

Not everything’s digital yet. In fact, some changes still mean standing in line.

According to UIDAI’s own FAQ page, biometrics — fingerprints, iris scans, photographs — must be updated physically at an enrolment centre. Similarly, name, gender, mobile number and date of birth changes beyond the allowed online limits also require in-person verification.

Therefore, if your fingerprints have faded with age, or if you need a third name correction, the portal won’t help. Instead, you’ll need to book an appointment and go in person.

Step-by-Step: How to Update Documents Online

Here’s the process UIDAI wants you to follow. Overall, it’s straightforward — if your documents are ready.

First, hit the portal: Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in

Next, log in: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, then request OTP on your registered mobile

Then, check details: Verify your existing identity and address info in the profile section

After that, upload PoI: Pick your document from the dropdown, then upload as JPEG/PNG/PDF under 2 MB

Subsequently, upload PoA: Same drill for address proof

Finally, submit and save: Grab that Update Request Number (URN) — you’ll need it to track progress

That’s it. No fee till June 14, 2027. But after that? You’ll be back to paying ₹50 per update.

📋 Documents You’ll Need

PAN card / Passport / Voter ID

Recent utility bill / Rent agreement

Bank passbook with photo

Ration card (if address proof)

File size: Under 2 MB each

Format: JPEG, PNG, or PDF only

The Bottom Line

Two big moves from UIDAI this week. First: free document updates stay free for another year. Second: the mAadhaar app’s days are numbered.

So if your Aadhaar documents are stale, you’ve got till June 2027 to fix them without paying a rupee. Nevertheless, don’t sleep on it — the portal gets jammed near deadlines. And if you’re still on the old mAadhaar app? Download the new one before your data goes poof.

We will keep tracking UIDAI updates as the June 2027 deadline approaches.

Now the most impressive part of this update is a tool called “Selective Disclosure.” Actually, it ensures that you only share the specific data a shop needs to see.

Privacy by Design

First, imagine you only need to prove you are over 18 at a movie hall. Next, Google Wallet will confirm your age without showing your full ID digits or home address. Thus, you keep total control over your private data during every check. Furthermore, this system follows strict global safety rules for digital IDs. Specifically, your data remains locked and stays only on your local device. Therefore, Google does not store your sensitive ID details on its own cloud servers.
2. How to Set It Up in 6 Easy Steps

Now you can set up your digital ID in just a few minutes. Actually, the process is very simple if you have your linked mobile phone nearby.

The Setup Guide

First, make sure your Google Wallet app is new. Next, open the app and tap the “+” or “Add” button on the screen. Thus, you can pick the “Aadhaar” option from the list you see. Additionally, the app will connect you to the official UIDAI site to prove it is you. Moreover, you must enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile phone to verify your identity. Consequently, your digital ID will appear in your wallet once you finish the biometric lock step. Period.

3. Using Your Digital ID Online and Offline

Now this digital version of your ID works in almost every place where you use a physical card. Actually, it makes checks much faster for both users and staff.

Wider Access

First, you can use Google Wallet to fill out complex forms like visa apps with one tap. Next, partners like Snabbit and MyGate will soon use this to verify delivery staff. Thus, workers can prove who they are safely without giving away a physical card. Additionally, the app asks for your thumbprint or face scan before showing any details. Moreover, this ensures that even if you lose your phone, your identity stays locked and safe. Consequently, this move marks a huge step toward a paperless India in 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the digital Aadhaar in Google Wallet valid for travel?

Aadhaar Card BIG Change: UIDAI May Launch QR-Only New Design

A big change could be coming to Aadhaar card. However, reports say UIDAI may introduce a new design that shows only a photo and a secure QR code.

Many people are asking one thing. Will this replace the current Aadhaar card?

Here’s what we know so far.

New Aadhaar Card Design: What Could Change

UIDAI is exploring a new look for the physical Aadhaar card. Because privacy concerns are growing, officials want fewer details printed on it.

Instead, the card may hide the name, address and date of birth. Even the 12-digit Aadhaar number may not appear on the front.

The new card could show only:

Your photograph

An encrypted QR code

That would be a big change.

Why UIDAI Wants to Change the Format

Aadhaar copies are shared everywhere for verification. Therefore, misuse of personal data has become a concern.

Many users hand over photocopies without thinking. As a result, sensitive details can be exposed.

Meanwhile, QR scanning would allow secure digital access only when needed.

UIDAI has not announced a launch date yet. However, the discussion around privacy is growing.

How QR-Based Aadhaar Verification May Work

If the redesign happens, scanning the QR code could pull verified data from UIDAI systems. Then, institutions would see only authorised information.

For users, it may feel like scanning a digital ticket.

Although the idea sounds simple, adoption may take time. Banks and offices would need new systems.

So don’t expect overnight changes.

UIDAI’s Aadhaar App Shows the Direction

UIDAI earlier introduced a new Aadhaar app for updates and verification. Also, the app reduces the need to carry physical copies.

Users can update mobile numbers and addresses from their phones. Similarly, QR verification aims to reduce data sharing.

Less paper. More digital access.

What Aadhaar Users Should Expect Next

Getting an Aadhaar for a toddler is now very simple. Recently, the UIDAI made the process much faster for parents. Specifically, it focuses on linking the child to your own data. Therefore, you do not need to worry about tiny fingerprints just yet.

Step 1: Link to Parent Aadhaar

First, at least one parent must have a valid Aadhaar. Specifically, the child’s ID is built using the parent’s data. Then, the parent must give their consent at the center. In fact, the child’s card will stay linked to yours until they grow up. Therefore, keep your own original Aadhaar card ready for the visit.

Step 2: The Birth Certificate Rule

Now, you must have the right documents for the child. Specifically, a birth certificate is the primary proof of relationship. Then, note that this is mandatory for kids born after October 1, 2023. In fact, you cannot use a hospital discharge slip alone anymore. Therefore, ensure you have the official birth certificate from the local body first.

Step 3: Finding a Center Near You

First, avoid standing in long lines with a tired toddler. Specifically, you can book an online appointment at uidai.gov.in. Then, use the Bhuvan Aadhaar portal to find the closest center. In fact, many banks and post offices also offer this service. Therefore, pick a slot during the morning when centers are less crowded.

Step 4: The Enrollment Visit

First, the operator will take a photo of the child. Specifically, no iris scans or fingerprints are needed for under-5s. Then, they will enter the name and address from your documents. In fact, this process is entirely free of cost. Therefore, do not pay any agent who asks for a fee. Finally, collect your receipt to track the status online later.

Step 5: The Vital Age 5 Update

The Baal Aadhaar is only valid until the child turns five. First, you must visit a center again for the “Mandatory Biometric Update.” Specifically, the child’s fingerprints and iris scans are finally recorded now. Then, this update ensures their Aadhaar stays active for school. In fact, this first update is also free if done on time. Therefore, mark your calendar as soon as your child turns five.

Reality Check

Reality Check: Many parents think the blue card is a permanent ID. Still, it becomes invalid if you miss the age 5 update. In fact, schools now demand updated biometrics for all admissions. Therefore, a blue card without the update might lead to a rejection. Meanwhile, the UIDAI sends SMS alerts for these updates. Yet, many people change phone numbers and miss these vital warnings.

The Loopholes

The Loopholes: You do not need a mobile number for the child’s Aadhaar. In fact, you can link it to your own phone number easily. Also, the child does not need to be present for every update later. Therefore, check the “Face RD” app for home-based photo updates in the future.

What This Means for You

Recently, the government made the birth certificate a single document for all services. Now, this makes your job much easier at the Aadhaar center. First, check if your child’s birth certificate has the correct spelling. Then, book an appointment to save at least two hours of waiting time. Next, keep a digital copy of the receipt on your phone. Indeed, having a Baal Aadhaar helps in opening a minor bank account too.

Next Steps

Check the UIDAI website to see the list of centers in your zip code. Then, look for our guide on how to update your child’s address if you move. Would you like me to find the link for the Bhuvan Aadhaar map?

The Indian government has launched a new Aadhaar app. Specifically, this app removes the need to carry a physical plastic card. You can now verify your identity digitally using your smartphone.

Consequently, you no longer need to submit photocopies for most services. The Electronics and IT Secretary, S. Krishnan, unveiled the app on Wednesday.

Better Privacy and Control

Privacy is the main focus of this new update. However, many people worry about data leaks. To fix this, the app uses a “selective sharing” feature. This means you choose exactly what info to show. For instance, if a hotel asks for your ID, you can share just your name and photo. You can hide your Aadhaar number and home address. So, third parties cannot collect more data than they actually need.

Key Features for Families

The app is also very useful for households. Additionally, you can manage up to five different Aadhaar profiles on one single phone. This makes it a great “One Family, One App” tool. Furthermore, you can update your mobile number and home address in minutes. You no longer have to visit an Aadhaar centre for these simple changes.

Family Profiles: Store IDs for up to five family members.

How to Get Started

You can download the app right now from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. To start, enter your Aadhaar number and verify it with an OTP. Then, set up a secure 6-digit PIN. Finally, use the “Secure QR Code” when you travel or visit a bank. In conclusion, this app gives you full control over your digital identity.
Aadhaar rules for children are getting a massive overhaul. The thing is, the UIDAI is moving toward a system where a birth certificate is the only way to prove who a child is.

Actually, this was already the rule for babies (0-5 years), but now they’re looking to apply it all the way up to age 18. Specifically, CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar recently noted that 98% of new applications come from people under 18.

As a result, making birth certificates mandatory helps curb the roughly 75,000 daily attempts at “ghost” or “duplicate” enrollments. Consequently, if you’re planning an update for your teenager, you better have that original paper handy (let’s be real, it’s about making the system unshakeable).

Finally: UIDAI to Allow Aadhaar Mobile Number Update From Home Via Face Scan

Also read |Aadhaar Photocopies will soon be Banned: UIDAI will Mandates QR Verification

The days of queuing up at an Aadhaar enrolment centre just to change your mobile number are nearly over. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that it will soon introduce a feature allowing users to update their Aadhaar-linked mobile number directly from home using the official Aadhaar App.

This is a massive convenience upgrade, particularly for the elderly, rural residents, and busy professionals who rely on their linked mobile number for critical services like UPI, banking, and government OTPs.

Also read |Aadhaar Photocopies will soon be Banned: UIDAI will Mandates QR Verification

The Two-Step Security Check

To ensure the process remains secure despite being remote, UIDAI is employing a two-step digital verification method:

OTP Verification: This is the first layer. You will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on either your existing or the new mobile number you are registering. Entering this correctly confirms ownership of the number.

Face Authentication (The Kicker): This is the game-changer. After the OTP is confirmed, the Aadhaar App will ask you to scan your face using the phone’s front camera. The application will then perform a live match against the photograph stored in the Aadhaar database.

If the face authentication is successful, the mobile number update is completed without any need for physical documents or a trip to an enrolment centre.

Why This Change Matters

The mobile number linked to Aadhaar is the most crucial piece of data for digital life in India. If it becomes inactive, access to everything from your bank account to your PAN linking is effectively locked.

The new home-based update process ensures:

Accessibility: Millions of users in remote areas or senior citizens with mobility issues gain the ability to manage their essential ID with ease.

Convenience: Busy working professionals can update their data in minutes from the comfort of their home.

Security: The dual check (OTP + Biometric Face Scan) maintains a high level of security despite the remote access.

The feature is currently “coming soon” but represents Aadhaar becoming exponentially more user-friendly and convenient.

End of an Era: UIDAI Bans Aadhaar Photocopies, Mandates Secure QR-Code Verification

The era of handing over a photocopy of your Aadhaar card for routine ID checks—at hotels, telecom stores, or event venues—is officially coming to an end. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has approved a new rule that will ban the collection and storage of physical Aadhaar photocopies, replacing the paper trail with a secure, digital verification system.

Also read |LIC Launches Protection Plus & Bima Kavach: New Plans

The core reason is simple: security and privacy. Millions of unsecured paper copies are a massive vulnerability for identity misuse. By eliminating them, UIDAI aims to minimize the risk of personal details falling into the wrong hands.

How the New Verification System Works

The future of Aadhaar verification is digital, relying on two key tools:

QR Code Scanning: Every Aadhaar card already features a Secure QR Code. This tiny square carries encrypted demographic details and a photograph, digitally signed by UIDAI. It can be scanned by a dedicated app (like the official mAadhaar app or other custom applications) to verify identity offline, without connecting to the central database, while revealing only the necessary, minimal information.

Mandatory Registration: This is the kicker. Any entity that wants to perform Aadhaar verification—from hotels to event organizers—must now register with the UIDAI as an Offline Verifying Seeking Entity (OVSE). Once registered, they will be given access to the official, secure verification tools.

What This Means for Users and Businesses

For Users (The Peace of Mind): Less paper, less risk of identity theft, and more control over data sharing, as the QR code only reveals limited, selective details.

For Businesses (The Required Upgrade): They must retire their filing cabinets and register with UIDAI. This ensures a uniform, auditable, and secure verification standard across the entire country, aligning the process with India’s broader Digital Personal Data Protection Act.

This is a massive relief for parents and a smart move by the UIDAI to boost compliance. They are wiping out the update fee for kids’ Aadhaar biometrics for a whole year.

The key thing to know is that this is about the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU)—the required checks that happen as a child grows.

Here is the raw breakdown:

Free Aadhaar Biometrics: Fees Waived for Children Aged 5–17

This is an administrative decision with a huge scope, expected to benefit roughly six crore children across the country. The charges for the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) are now zero for the 5-17 age group.

Effective Date: October 1st.

Duration: One full year.

Why This Matters

When kids enroll for Aadhaar under age five, they only give demographic details and a photograph. Their biometrics (fingerprints, iris scans) aren’t captured because they aren’t mature yet. The system needs two mandatory updates:

First MBU: Required when the child turns five years old.

Second MBU: Required when the child reaches 15 years old.

Before this waiver, updates outside the narrow 5-7 and 15-17 windows could cost money—about ₹125 per update. Now, the UIDAI has decided: forget the fee for anyone between 5 and 17, for a year, to clear the backlog.

The whole point is smooth access. An updated, accurate Aadhaar is essential for school admissions, entrance exams, and accessing scholarship or Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes. Parents need to prioritize this now while the window is free.
