Foreign University Campus: Every year a large number of students go abroad for studies. Most of them take admission in universities in countries like UK or Australia. From time to time, UGC issues guidelines to students to be aware of frauds in the name of foreign universities. Now the Government of India has taken a big step towards making higher education globally competitive. Therefore, campuses of many famous foreign universities will be opened in India.
After this, Indian students will not need to go abroad for an international level degree. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently informed that the government has submitted Letter of Intent (LOI) to four leading universities from Australia and the United Kingdom (UK) to open campuses in India. This will provide students with excellent opportunities for foreign degrees, research and skill development while staying in their own country. This step has been taken under the New Education Policy (NEP 2020).
India will become a global education hub…
The new Education Policy 2020 is focused on making India a global education hub. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the arrival of foreign universities will not only benefit students from world-class education, but will also lead to a major improvement in the quality of research, technology and education in the country. Apart from this, lakhs of students will be able to get foreign-like education here at a lower cost. This will save a lot of time and money. The government aims that in the coming years, Indian universities will also reach the top of the global rankings.
Which foreign universities have received approval?
The Government of India has so far allowed a total of 15 foreign institutions to open campuses in the country. Out of these, LOI has been submitted to 4 universities. You can check their names as mentioned below.
Victoria University, Australia
University of Bristol, United Kingdom
Western Sydney University, Australia
La Trobe University, Australia
These universities will open campuses in various cities of India, which will benefit students across the country.
Announcement made at Education Conference 2025…
This was announced at the All India Education Conference 2025 held at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi on 29 July 2025. In this conference, on the completion of five years of NEP 2020, the achievements so far were reviewed and the future direction was set. On this occasion, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that due to NEP 2020, such a big change has been possible in India’s higher education system. With the arrival of these foreign universities in India, students will get the opportunity to get an international standard degree at a low fee.
