Registering your mobile number on Aadhaar gives you easy access to one-time password (OTP) based verification, UPI transactions and other digital payments. But if your mobile number is not updated in Aadhaar, then you may face some problems. If you have lost your registered number for some reason or have changed your phone number, then you can also update it online.

Why do I need to update/change my number?
Updating your mobile number in Aadhaar is very important for a few reasons. Getting OTP for online transactions and Aadhaar-based verification. Accessing Aadhaar-linked government schemes and protecting your Aadhaar-linked accounts from unauthorized access is important and this will happen only when your mobile number is updated.
Online process to change mobile number in Aadhaar
- Step 1: Visit the UIDAI portal https://www.uidai.gov.in/ and access the Self-Service Update Portal (SSUP).
- Step 2: Enter the registered phone number you want to update.
- Step 3: Verify using OTP: Click on ‘Send OTP’, enter the received OTP and proceed.
- Step 4: From the ‘Online Aadhaar Services’ menu, select the option you want to update (in this case your mobile number)
- Step 5: Provide the required information and submit your phone number
- Step 6: Captcha Verification – Enter the security code displayed and proceed.
- Step 7: Enter the OTP received on your new mobile number.
- Step 8: Once the verification is successful, click on ‘Save & Proceed’.
- Step 9: After following the steps mentioned above, schedule an appointment at the Aadhaar enrolment centre and visit the Aadhaar Seva Kendra to undergo biometric authentication. Provide any additional documents required to complete the process and pay the prescribed fee.
