India Post Goes Fast: Guaranteed Next-Day Delivery Launched

The India Post is getting a high-speed upgrade. Specifically, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched India Post’s “24-Hour Speed Post” today, March 17, 2026. Initially, this premium service is rolling out in six major cities. Now, the Department of Posts is moving away from just letters. Indeed, they want to be a top player in the ₹30 lakh crore e-commerce market.

The “6-City” Rollout

Look, the service is live in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Previously, Speed Post took two to four days between these hubs. However, this update ensures your mail reaches its goal by the very next day. Furthermore, the Minister says Phase 2 will bring this to more towns by late September. Ultimately, they plan to go global by March 2027.

New Low Pricing

Actually, the pricing is very low to beat private couriers. Specifically, the costs depend on weight and distance.

Service Weight Distance Price
24-Hr Paper Up to 50g Local ₹38
24-Hr Paper Up to 500g 2,000 km+ ₹186
24-Hr Parcel Up to 500g National ₹200
24-Hr Parcel Up to 5kg National ₹990

Money-Back Guarantee

Indeed, the biggest change is the Money-Back Promise. Specifically, if India Post misses the 24 or 48-hour goal, they will return your full fee. Furthermore, the service adds new safety tools. For instance, they now use OTP-Based delivery to ensure the right person gets the box. Also, they will now deliver on Sundays and holidays to keep things moving. Moreover, you can track your mail in real-time with SMS alerts.

A Move to E-Commerce

While letters were once the main focus, parcels are now the future. Specifically, parcel numbers grew by 44% this year. Therefore, Scindia wants India Post to be the main partner for sites like Amazon and Flipkart. Indeed, he noted that the “postman reaches where war and storms go.” Consequently, India Post is using extra space on flights to ensure no delays occur. In short, your local post office is now the fastest way to ship. Right.
