The Railway Ministry is preparing to increase the fare of AC and non-AC classes in mail/express trains from July 1, 2025. According to officials, fares can be increased by 1 paisa in non-AC (sleeper, second seating etc.) categories and 2 paisa per kilometer in all AC classes.
A railway official said in the matter, this increase will be the lowest as compared to the previous fare hike in 2020 and 2013. While there will be a slight increase in sleeper class journeys.
The fare of non-AC class in mail/express trains will be increased by 1 paisa per kilometer. The fare of all AC classes (AC first, second, third) will increase by 2 paisa per kilometer. There
will be no increase up to 500 km. It can be increased by half a paisa per kilometer for a distance of more than 500 km. At the same time, the fare of suburban trains will not increase considering the convenience of monthly passes and daily travelers.

A railway official said that the current increase will be the lowest as compared to the previous fare revision in 2020 and 2013. Earlier, train fares were increased on a per km basis on January 1, 2020. Then the second class fare for ordinary and mail/express trains was increased by 1 paisa and 2 paisa respectively, while the fare of sleeper class and all AC classes was increased by 2 paisa and 4 paisa respectively.
Before 2020, the fares of all classes were significantly revised in 2013. For example, then the second class fare for ordinary trains was increased by 2 paisa, while the second class fare for express/mail trains was increased by 4 paisa. Apart from this, the fare of sleeper class was increased by 6 paisa. In 2013, the fares of all classes except AC-2 were increased by 10 paisa, while the fare of AC-2 was increased by 6 paisa per km.
