Income Tax Return Deadline: Can the date for filing income tax returns be extended? If the demand of Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) is accepted, then taxpayers can get more time to file ITR.
GCCI has written a letter to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) saying that this time the process of ITR filing started late because the necessary utilities and forms were released about three months late. Many forms were not available even till the beginning of August, due to which taxpayers and chartered accountants got very little time to prepare.
The government had already given some relief
The government has already extended the last date for filing ITR for non-audit taxpayers from July 31 to September 15, 2025. But GCCI says that this extension was not of much use due to the late release of the forms. The real problem is that people did not get a chance to prepare on time.
Slow internet and changing forms became a problem
GCCI says that frequent utility changes and weak internet connection in many areas are causing great difficulties to taxpayers and professionals. That is why they have demanded from CBDT to extend the deadline for ITR filing and tax audit report to 30 September.
Which forms were issued and when?
This year ITR forms and utilities were released late.
ITR-1 to ITR-4 were issued between May and July.
ITR-5 came on 8th August.
ITR-6 Excel Utility released on 15th August.
ITR-7 has not been issued yet.
Audit related forms 3CA-3CD and 3CB-3CD were released on July 29.
