    ITR deadline extended

Information about this has been given by the Income Tax Department on Social Media X (formerly Twitter). The department has said that the deadline for ITR to be submitted by 31 July 2025 has now been extended to 15 September 2025. This decision was taken due to major changes in the ITR form, the need to show TDS credit correctly and to prepare the system. Filing such a tax return will be accurate and easy. Soon an official notification will also be issued by the department in this regard.

Recently, the Income Tax Department has issued all seven ITR forms for the assessment year 20225-26, in which there have been many major changes. It is taking time to update the system to implement them. Utilities are also being tested. For example, ITR-7 for Trust or Charitable Institutions was notified on 11 May, while ITR-1 and ITR-4 for small and medium taxpayers were notified on 29 April.

The CBDT also said that TDS statements, which will be submitted by May 31, 2025, will all start appearing in early June. Due to this, there may be less time to file the return this time, due to which this step has been taken.

Usually, ITR forms are notified around February/March before the end of the financial year. However, this time the facility of filing ITR forms and documents was delayed as the officials of the Revenue Department were busy with the new Income Tax Bill which was introduced in Parliament in February. CBDT said, “In order to make the document filing experience smooth and convenient for the taxpayers, it has been decided that the last date for filing ITR which was originally July 31 has been extended to September 15, 2025.
