Microsoft is no longer interested in keeping Windows 10 alive. It was earlier planned to end support for this popular operating system in October 2025, but considering the response from users, Microsoft has now extended support for MS Office apps and services on Windows 10 until August 2026. This will give users and companies on Windows 10 systems a year to upgrade to Windows 11.

The company will stop providing new feature updates for MS Office apps on older Windows 10 systems starting August 2026. However, required security updates for Office on Windows 10 will continue until October 2028, but development and rollout of new features will stop starting next year. This policy change will affect users who rely on Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, and Enterprise subscriptions for their business and home use.

Windows 10 support ends in October 2025

Software updates for security patches for Windows 10 will end support on October 14, 2025. However, PCs running Windows 10 will continue to function normally, but they will be vulnerable to cybersecurity attacks and other cyber threats. With millions of devices still running Windows 10, Microsoft has implemented several promotions to encourage upgrades, including giving Windows 10 users who activate Windows Backup the option to choose free extended security updates or a paid service.

Windows 11 is a great option

for those who want to keep their systems secure. Windows 11 is available as the only upgrade option. Windows 11 features a new interface that includes a central Start menu and taskbar, rounded corners, and small animations for a modern aesthetic. Key features include Snap Layouts and Snap Groups for efficient window organization and better multi-monitor support.

This operating system features Microsoft’s AI assistant, Copilot, which is based on OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, which provides contextual assistance and creative tools. For gamers, Windows 11 brings features like DirectStorage and Auto HDR, which promise faster load times and better visual quality. In addition, it supports Android apps through the Microsoft Store.
