Every year, central and state government retirees have to submit this proof of life to their pension disbursing authority (PDA). The certificate is only valid for one year from the date of the last submission. If you miss this deadline, your December pension payment will not be released.

The Consequences of Missing the Deadline

  • Pension Suspension: The most immediate impact is the stoppage of your monthly pension.

  • Arrears Delay: Your pension will only be resumed, and any held-back amount (arrears) will only be disbursed, once your LC has been received and processed by the Central Pension Processing Center (CPPC). This means a delay in funds you rely on.

What You Need to Submit Your LC

Before you start the process—whether online or in person—ensure you have these documents and details ready.

  • Pension Payment Order (PPO) Number

  • Aadhaar Number

  • Aadhaar-linked Mobile Number

  • Bank Account Details (where the pension is deposited)

Step-by-Step: Submitting the Digital Life Certificate (DLC)

The Digital Life Certificate (DLC) process, now utilizing face recognition, is the easiest way to submit the document from home using an Android smartphone.

  1. Aadhaar Linkage: Ensure your Aadhaar number is registered with your Pension Disbursing Authority (bank or post office).

  2. Download Apps: Download and install two apps from the Google Play Store on your Android phone (needs a 5 MP front camera minimum):

    • ‘AadhaarFaceRD’

    • ‘Jeevan Pramaan Face App’

  3. Operator Authentication: Open the Jeevan Pramaan app. A one-time Operator Authentication is required (the pensioner can be the operator). You’ll enter the Aadhaar and mobile number, authenticate via OTP, and scan the operator’s face.

  4. Pensioner Authentication: Enter the pensioner’s Aadhaar and mobile number, and receive an OTP.

  5. Enter Details: Fill in all the required pension details (PPO, bank account, PDA name).

  6. Face Scan: The app will prompt you to scan the pensioner’s face for Aadhaar-based verification.

  7. Submission: After successful verification, the DLC is generated. You will receive an SMS with the Pramaan ID and a link to download the certificate.

Where You Can Submit (Online & Offline)

If the face authentication method isn’t working for you, you have several reliable backup options.

Submission Method Where to Go Key Points
In Person / Offline Your local Bank Branch (e.g., SBI, PNB, Canara Bank, HDFC, ICICI). Bring all required documents (PPO, Aadhaar, etc.). Staff will assist with the physical or digital submission.
Doorstep Service India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) or Doorstep Banking Alliance of 12 public sector banks. A postman or bank agent will visit your home to complete the DLC using a biometric device for a small fee.
Digital Kiosk Any nearby Common Service Centre (CSC) or Pensioners’ Welfare Association (PWA). These centers have the necessary biometric devices and certified operators.
Digital App UMANG App You can search for the Jeevan Pramaan service within the UMANG app and complete the biometric verification there (requires a biometric device or face authentication).

Check Status and Download LC

After submitting, you will receive an SMS with a Transaction ID (Pramaan ID). This ID is key.

  • Download Soft Copy: Visit the official portal: https://jeevanpramaan.gov.in. Use your Pramaan ID to download the soft copy (PDF) of your Digital Life Certificate.

  • Check Status: The downloaded certificate itself will show the status of your LC. If it shows rejection, contact your Pension Disbursing Authority immediately to correct any data mismatch (Aadhaar, PPO, etc.) and resubmit before the deadline.
